TEAMS: Atlanta Hawks, Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, Brooklyn Nets
There is no love lost between the Atlanta Hawks and Boston Celtics. Ever since the teams clashed through seven hard-fought games in the first round of the 2008 Playoffs, it seems, both teams have had each others' number. There have been matchups, dustups and confrontations - with notable incidents involving Paul Pierce and Al Horford, Jeff Teague and Ray Allen (to which KG, in turn, called Teague "a nobody.") and most recently Hawks GM Danny Ferry and his "snitch-gate" affair on Rajon Rondo.
More than their history of confrontations, though, tonight's encounter between the Hawks and C's will have added implications on playoff standings and homecourt advantage. Atlanta (34-26) is currently fifth in the East and just a game ahead of the seventh-seeded C's (33-27). A Boston win will not only tie them with the Hawks but it will move the Green within spitting range of the fourth-seed Brooklyn Nets (35-26). And as our buddy Mike analyzed here hom...

Pierce now battling bone bruise on his left knee
According to Forsberg of the worldwide leader local branch, Paul Pierce is now battling a bone bruise on his left knee. He suffered the injury in Philly, but it appeared to affect his play last night in Indiana shooting just 4 of 15 for just 13 points. He did play 34 minutes which is a good sign, but was seen with an ice pack on his knee in postgame interviews. I wouldn’t expect...
Paul Pierce ‘Wouldn’t Give Any Negative Backlash’ If Celtics Buy Him Out This Offseason
Unthinkable as it may seem given his recent stellar play, Paul Pierce will one day play his final game in a Celtics uniform.
That could be as soon as this summer, in fact. The Celtics have a $5 million buyout in Pierce’s contract, which becomes guaranteed for more than $15 million if he is still on the roster come July. The team therefore has to decide whether the $10 million savings...
Wojnarowski: Paul Pierce for Josh Smith was “perhaps closest Pierce had come to parting with Celtics”
Paul Pierce was very nearly traded for Josh Smith at the deadline. We knew that Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett were both in danger of being traded at the deadline this season, but according to Yahoo!’s Adrian Wojnarowski, who is usually right about such things, the deal may have been as close as Pierce has come to leaving the Celtics in his career. From the Yahoo! article:Before the...
Paul Pierce Still Top Clutch Performer for Celtics, With Ball in Hands or Without
There was no brilliantly devised play call this time. If the Celtics’ last gut-check victory was an example of Paul Pierce‘s abilities as a $17 million decoy, their latest was a reminder in exactly why Doc Rivers usually puts the ball in this guy’s hands in the clutch.
The most polarizing topic among Celtics fans might not be whether the team is better without Rajon Rondo or...
Teague, Tolliver lead Hawks past Sixers
ATLANTA (AP) -- Jeff Teague scored 27 points, Anthony Tolliver added a season-high 21 and the Atlanta Hawks bounced back from a sluggish start for a 107-96 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday night, snapping a three-game losing streak.
Tolliver, averaging just 3.4 points a game, had already surpassed his previous best of 13 points by halftime. The Sixers kept leaving...

From the GreenLab: CLOSE THE BLAST DOORS!
There is a famous scene in “Star Wars: A New Hope” where Han Solo and Chewbacca are fleeing from an angry and clumsy group of Stormtroopers trying to make their way to the Milennium Falcon. As they are running down the corridor, you can hear one of the troopers yell ‘CLOSE THE BLAST DOORS!’ As the doors are slowly closing, Han and Chewie hop through cleanly, leaving all...
Trade Almost Happened That Sent Paul Pierce To Dallas, Josh Smith To Boston
Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images
The NBA Trade Deadline ended a little over two weeks ago, however there were many deals that almost happened but just didn’t go through.
As Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski reports, a three-way deal almost occurred that would send Paul Pierce to the Dallas Mavericks, Josh Smith to the Boston Celtics and a first-round C’s pick along with Jae Crowder...
Comments from the Other Side - Hawks 3/8
It always amazes me when there is a team like the Hawks that is playing well and yet their fans aren't really behind them. Unlike the Raptors, who aren't playing so well, yet have over a hundred pages on 3 or 4 different boards, it's hard to find an active game thread for the Hawks. I mean, even the Bobcats have a more loyal following than the Hawks. I say...

Finally, Doc Rivers listens to the fans and calls a play at the end of the game that isn't just a Paul Pierce iso. And it was awesome.
Best win of the year? Best play of the year? Yes on both accounts.

Five observations from Hawks' win over Sixers
ATLANTA Here are five things (and one bonus rant) we gleaned from the Hawks' 107-96 win over the hapless Sixers on Wednesday:
1. So much for Atlanta's irritating six-game slide against Philly
You know it's a good night for the Hawks when point guard Jeff Teague (27 points, 11 assists) encounters little resistance in his dribble-drive moves to the paint.
On the flip...
Gutsy win: Boston Celtics rally to beat Indiana Pacers 83-81
Let me be honest: This game was billed as a potential playoff preview but Indiana is a team I’d rather avoid. The Pacers are a very good team, probably the only real challenger to the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference. A Celtics-Pacers series sounds like a more graceful version of last year’s grindy Celtics-76ers tilt, except this time the odds wouldn’t be in the Celtics...
