The recently reunited Ben Folds Five was certainly a success in its day. The Charlotte Bobcats? Not so much. During their heyday, the Five put out a platinum album -- 1997's Whatever and Ever Amen -- and was the kind of group that was able to touch a lot of different areas, gaining popularity both in the mainstream and "indie" scenes. However, the group broke up just three albums into its career in 2000, and -- despite a one-off reunion in 2008 -- wasn't heard from again until last year. Since returning back to being an active band, the Five put out a new album in September, but apparently have other ambitions, as well. In a series of tweets sent to the Charlotte Bobcats' official account, band frontman Ben Folds let it be known that the three-piece group (yeah, we know the name's ironic) would like to perform as the pit band for a future Charlotte Bobcats game. The band is indeed from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, so the pairing does make a certain amount of sense. A UNC game might make slightly more sense, but apparently the band are actually fans of the Bobcats. Considering the team is coming off a season in which they earned the worst record in NBA history, that speaks volumes. And, for the record, the Bobcats did indeed tweet them back to get the ball rolling. My band Ben Folds Five are from NC and would like to volunteer to be pit band at a@bobcats game this season — benjamin folds (@BenFolds) November 5, 2012 Photo via Facebook/Ben Folds Five Photo of the Night David Ortiz, his son D'Angelo and Larry Lucchino were understandably all smiles on Monday.
