Detroit Pistons guard Ben Gordon likely will not play for Britain in the upcoming Eurobasket tournament, a team official said.
Performance director Chris Spice told the BBC that insurance issues are the problem for Gordon, who was born in Britain but raised in the United States.
"We’ll know on Monday but it is looking unlikely," Spice said. "In the end we have not been able to afford the same level of cover he would get in a normal year in an NBA deal."
Without Gordon, Britain's ability to compete in Eurobasket 2011 is severely impacted. He was expected to join former Chicago Bulls teammate Luol Deng - who was cleared to compete last week - in anchoring the squad.
As the host of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Britain already has qualified for the Games as the host.
