According to Royce Young of CBS Sports, the Charlotte Bobcats have fired their inexperienced head coach for not being able to win with a roster that is lacking in the talent department. The Bobcats announced Tuesday they have fired coach Mike Dunlap after just one season. “Rich Cho and I conducted our season-ending review and met with Coach Dunlap to reflect on this season. As an organization, it was decided that we needed to make a change with the head coach position,” president of basketball operations Rod Higgins said in a release. “We want to thank Mike for his contribution and wish him the best in his future endeavors.” Dunlap took over this season and started surprisingly well, getting Charlotte off to a 7-5 start. But after a horrific 45-point drubbing in Oklahoma City, the Bobcats went into a tailspin losing their next 18 and crawled to a 21-61 record. Dunlap, 55, was a surprise hiring before the 2012-13 season after having no significant head coaching experience. He came to the Bobcats from St. John’s, where he was an assistant. The Bobcats can fire as many coaches they want, but as long as their front office continues their run of ineptitude very little will change.
