Leon Powe, pending a physical, will be the newest Cleveland Cavalier Tuesday.
So much for Danny Ferry being finished.Pending a physical on Tuesday, Leon Powe and the Cavaliers have a 2-year deal in place, according to Plain Dealer reporter Brian Windhorst.According to a source, the Cavs have the framework of a contract completed with free agent forward Leon Powe. It could become official as early as Tuesday, when Powe is expected to come to Cleveland to meet with team doctors.Powe is in the middle of recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee
and may not be able to return until the All-Star Break. But the Cavs
feel like he's worth the wait. The sides have been talking for weeks and were able to agree on a
two-year contract, which will protect both sides. Powe will get a
chance to rehab with a deal and the Cavs will be protected if he
recovers as they apparently believe he will.
Powe played AAU ball back with LeBron James during high school, so there is some familiarity between him and the Cavs.He reportedly wanted to come to Cleveland, with the Orlando Magic and Los Angeles Lakers being his other top options. He became an unrestricted free agent when Boston didn't offer him a qualifying offer at the beginning of free agency.Powe, 25, averaged 7.7 points, 4.9 rebounds on 52.4% shooting in 70 games.
