Josh Smith has had some rough performances against the Cavaliers in his career, and tonight, he forgot to account for Alonzo Gee. Dion Waiters’s three-point attempt went awry, but Gee was there for the putback with 0.4 seconds remaining as the Cavaliers came back from 11 down at the half to snap a 4-game skid and win 113-111 at Philips Arena. Jeremy Pargo led the wine and gold with 22 points with 10 of those coming in the final quarter, and Dion Waiters had 21 points and 7 assists. Anderson Varejao stuffed the stats again with a 20 point, 18 rebound effort. The Cavaliers, one of the worst free throw shooting teams in the association, completed a brilliant 21-of-22 from the line. For the Hawks, Smith led all scorers with 25 and Lou Williams added 18 and two killer threes in the final minute and a half. The Cavaliers are now 4-12 and face the Portland Trailblazers tomorrow night in The Q. Cleveland Starters Pos Min FG 3Pt FT +/- Off Reb Ast TO Stl BS BA PF Pts J. Dion Waiters Questionable for Monday’s Game At Detroit

The Cavaliers announced this afternoon that shooting guard Dion Waiters has a sprained left ankle. The injury was suffered with about two minutes remaining in double overtime in Saturday night’s loss to Portland. He is receiving treatment after the MRI confirmed the sprain, but he is traveling to Detroit. He is listed as questionable heading into tomorrow night’s game at The...

In The Scrum With Alonzo Gee

After hitting the first game winner of his NBA career to snap a 6-game Atlanta Hawks win streak, Cleveland Cavaliers foward Alonzo Gee took a moment to reflect on his highlight-reel worthy lay in.

Gee's last-second tip-in gives Cavs win

ATLANTA -- Dion Waiters insists his last shot hit the rim but everyone else in Philips Arena, including his teammates on the Cleveland Cavaliers bench, saw an air ball. Alonzo Gee, standing under the basket, thought the shot was good; Waiters was in rhythm. Suddenly, the ball was in Gee's hands. "Oh!" he gasped, and tipped it in as time expired to beat the Atlanta...

Video: Dion Waiters monster double-pump dunk

Tweet The Cleveland Cavaliers took a risk by drafting Dion Waiters fourth overall in last summer’s NBA Draft, mostly for his ability to make plays like this: Waiters early development has been much needed for a Cavs team that is without last season’s ROY Kyrie Irving. If Waiters can keep it up, the Cavs will [...]

Gee, Cavs rally in fourth to top Hawks

ATLANTA (AP) -- Alonzo Gee scored on a putback with less than 1 second remaining, lifting the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 113-111 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night that snapped a four-game losing streak. Gee rebounded a missed 3-pointer by Dion Waiters and quickly followed up with the winning shot. The Hawks, out of timeouts, couldn't manage a shot before time expired...

Breaking Down Alonzo Gee's Game Winner

I was looking for a pick-and-roll between Dion Waiters and Anderson Varejao last night on the Cavaliers final possession. Byron Scott put the ball in Waiters' hands and it looked as if the Varejao screen was indeed an option. I'm not sure if Waiters waved it off, or Varejao made that read, but no ball-screen came. Dion instead took a long jumper that would've missed...

Alonzo Gee Wins Game For Cleveland

Alonzo Gee’s put-back off the glass of an errant three-point attempt by teammate Dion Waiters with .4 seconds remaining was the game winner tonight for the Cleveland Cavaliers against the hometown Atlanta Hawks. The 113-111 victory was a sweet moment for the former Crimson Tide player in town the day before tomorrow’s SEC Championship Football Game between Alabama and Georgia.

Dion Waiters splits the Trail Blazers defense and slams it home (Video)

Cleveland Cavaliers rookie guard Dion Waiters had an impressive sequence during the first quarter of Saturday night's NBA game at the Quicken Loans Arena against the Portland Trail Blazers. Waiters drove right through two Blazers defenders at the top of the key and threw down a powerful two-handed slam that brought Cavs fans to their feet. Waiters finished with 12 points...

Cavaliers’ Backcourt Shines, Gee’s Putback Snaps 4-Game Losing Streak

The Hawks have been almost entirely retooled. Gone are Joe Johnson, Marvin Williams, Mike Bibby, and Flip Murray from that 2009 team the Cavaliers swept in the second round of the playoffs. In are Lou Williams, Jeff Teague, and Devin Harris and a faster paced style. One of the few remaining players, Josh Smith, led all scorers last night, but it was his failure to prevent Alonzo...

Cavaliers 113, Hawks 111

Alonzo Gee scored on a putback with less than 1 second remaining, lifting the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 113-111 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night that snapped a four-game losing streak. Gee rebounded a missed 3-pointer by Dion Waiters and quickly followed up with the winning shot. The Hawks, out of timeouts, couldn't manage a shot before time expired. Jeremy Pargo...

Rookie Rankings: Lillard’s big fear, Waiters keeps chucking

With the Cavaliers having two rookies playing prominent minutes, WFNY thought it would beneficial to see how the fresh meat around the league is faring in comparison with the Cavalier rookies. Each week, we’ll have NBA rookie power rankings where we’ll rack and stack the freshman class of the NBA. The rankings will be weighted with the most recent games carrying the most importance...

Dion Waiters throws down nasty two-handed jam against Trail Blazers

Without second-year point guard Kyrie Irving, the Cleveland Cavaliers have to look towards rookie Dion Waiters to pick-up the slack of the scoring brunt. In the first quarter of tonight's Cavaliers/Trail Blazers affair, watch as Dion splits the Portland defense and throws down a nasty double-pump two-handed slam:

Hawks win streak ends vs. woeful Cavs

Cavaliers Film Room: Crunch-Time Crumbling

In last week’s Cavalier Film Room, we dissected the Cavalier defense from the point guard position. This week, we’ll address the Cavaliers’ lack of execution at the end of three close games this past week. The Cavs lost three heartbreakers on the road to Orlando, Miami, and Memphis. In all three of these games, the Cavaliers led for a majority of the first three quarters, but...

Hawks Barely Win Against Bobcats

So, how does a team come back from a 45-point beat down earlier in the week?  Let me remind, again, that the team dishing out that beat down was an NBA Finals team.  Unlike last season’s Bobcats, they come back to lose by only 3 points in the Hawks house.  The final score was 94-91.  It was a great game to see, even though I was stuck on the phone for most of the second half...
