You knew this game would be tough to win, with the Cavaliers starting backcourt out with injuries and the Pistons playing good basketball as of late. For a while, that’s exactly what happened, with the Cavaliers falling behind by 20 points in the first half and trailing by 17 at the half. In the 4th quarter, the Cavaliers made a good effort to try to get back into this one. With 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, the Cavaliers were down 71-51. With 2 minutes to go, the Cavaliers had closed the gap all the way to 6 points at 85-79. In the end, though, it was just too little, too late, as the Pistons regained their edge to hang on for the 10 point win. Anderson Varejao did what Anderson Varejao does with another workman-like 17 point, 18 rebound night (9 offensive rebounds). The Cavaliers just didn’t have enough offensive firepower with both Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters out with injuries. Brandon Knight led the Pistons with 17 points. 1 2 3 4 T CLE 17 22 24 16 79 DET 30 26 19 14 89 Cleveland Starters Pos Min FG 3Pt FT +/- Off Reb Ast TO Stl BS BA PF Pts A. Cavaliers' Anderson Varejao Trade Rumors Heating Up

Anderson Varejao may not be a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers for much longer.  Trade talks involving the 30-year old forward/center are expected to heat up.  There could be numerous teams with interest in Varejao to fill injury holes or just improve their low post presence. According to Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Varejao is leading the NBA in rebounding which...

NBA News: Cavs recall rookie Kevin Jones from Canton

The Cleveland Cavaliers have recalled forward Kevin Jones from the Canton Charge. Jones has appeared in five games for the Charge this season, averaging 23.6 points (third in the league), 12.6 rebounds (third in the league) and 1.4 steals in 41.0 minutes (fourth in the league). He has four double-doubles on the season. An undrafted rookie out of West Virginia, Jones was signed to...

Anderson Varejao on the market? Are the Boston Celtics a fit?

Speculation out of Cleveland is that Cavaliers big man Anderson Varejao’s improvement this season could be make him an attractive trade target for contenders as the trade deadline approaches.  Terry Pluto of the Cleveland Plains Dealer writes: “The Anderson Varejao trade talk will heat up again, especially with the incredible Cavalier leading the NBA in rebounding — [...]

Executive: Varejao ‘The Top Target' If Available

Anderson Varejao could be the top trade target this season -- if he's available.

Reality sets in as Cavaliers fall without Irivng, Waiters

“To be honest I do not think you can make up for it.” — Byron Scott, 12/3/12 It wasn’t all that long ago when a Cavaliers-Pistons match-up was must-watch television. If you need proof, just ask Tayshaun Prince, Jason Maxiell, Anderson Varejao or Daniel Gibson — the only four men to play in the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals who happen to still be playing for their respective...

Cavs recall F Kevin Jones

The struggling Cavaliers have recalled forward Kevin Jones. Jones has been playing for the Cavs' D-League affiliate in Canton. In five games with the Charge, the former West Virginia star averaged 23.6 points and 12.6 rebounds. The 6-foot-8 Jones was one of the final players cut by the Cavs at the end of training camp. Cleveland has struggled without star point guard Kyrie...

The Cleveland Cavaliers, off to a perfect 3 and 11 record

.    The Cleveland Cavaliers season is shaping up to be one of the greatest in rebuilding history. I couldn’t have scripted it better myself. I thought they would be bad, while not being bad enough to improve their roster. I thought that they would be just bad enough to lurk around .500, and that they might even sneak into the playoffs. However I pleasantly surprised to see...

Could Anderson Varejao end up in Boston?

Teammates Soon? Anderson Varejao is one of the polarizing players, you love when he plays for your team but hate when he plays for the other guys. I personally am of the latter; I could never stand the guy. Just the way the Side-Show-Bob-look-alike plays grinds my gears and when Benedict LeBron was still in Cleveland, they were a match made in heaven. The flopping, the whining...

Bulls-Cavaliers Preview

Kyrie Irving's absence caused enough headaches for the Cleveland Cavaliers well before having to contend with a hobbled Dion Waiters. Beating the Chicago Bulls has been a challenging chore no matter who is in the lineup. Waiters may miss a second straight game as Cleveland looks to avoid a 10th consecutive loss to visiting Chicago on Wednesday night. Cleveland (4-14) is 2...

Anderson Varejao is in Hall of Fame company this season

Anderson Varejao is averaging 15.2 points and 15.4 rebounds per game heading into tonight's matchup with the Chicago Bulls.  He's also shooting 52.2 percent from the floor overall and 77.7 percent from the free throw line. To that point, Dave Wooley (@dwooley81) emailed me the following statistic. The players who have averaged at least 15 points and...

The Cavaliers Continue to Grind Through Injuries

Is it better to play poorly and win or to play well and lose? The Cleveland Cavaliers (4-14, 13th in the East) have lost quite a few games I’m not sure they deserved to lose this season. The Cavaliers are going through something of an identity crisis at the moment. Or they are a pretty good bad team, or a pretty bad good team? One of the games they most certainly deserved to lose...
