The long-ailing right knee of Brandon Roy caused the talented guard to retire at one point.  Now, he has undergone another surgery and has revealed that he has degenerative arthritis in his knee.  Roy knew the risks associated with trying to come back, and he knew how bad his knee was when he returned to the league.  Unfortunately, his body has once again won out over his desire.  And he has desire.  No one should ever question that. Roy spoke with Jason Quick of the Oregonian and admitted he came back because he wasn't sure whether he had called it quits too soon or not.  He knew exactly where his knee was and what it would mean to his long-term health if he returned, but he had a nagging feeling that he had retired out of medical necessity too soon.  His most recent injury may prove otherwise. For those of us who watched Roy play in the Pac-10 (University of Arizona fan here who hated watching Roy light it up for the Washington Huskies), it's a shame to see his career winding down like this.  Life is not fair.  We know that.  Roy got his shot at the NBA, and he should be thankful for that, but I think anyone who has ever watched him play when he was at his peak understands that he could have been so much more.Roy explained that he has Level Three arthritis in his knee:"Level IV," Roy says fearlessly, "is when you get a knee replacement." To put things in perspective, Mike D'Antoni, new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers is recovering from knee replacement surgery.  He is 61 years old, Roy is 28.
