Found June 25, 2013 on Red's Army:
With Doc Rivers off to Los Angeles and the Celtics now staring a rebuild square in the pupils, the NBA’s vultures are starting to land and pick at the Boston’s former championship carcass. Knowing full well that Kevin Garnett’s loyalty to Boston may be eroding now, teams are going to start inquiring about KG’s openness for a move.  First up, the Brooklyn Nets. A future Hall of Famer might become available, so Billy King did his due diligence and made the call. Multiple sources told the Daily News that the Nets GM inquired about Kevin Garnett’s desire to join Deron Williams in Brooklyn, but King didn’t get an answer while uncertainty surrounds the Celtics. I wouldn’t be shocked if KG is open to a move.  I would, however, be shocked if Brooklyn was on his list of potential teams.   I don’t think they scream “contender.” It would be a great move for them, though.  Brooklynites would love KG’s grit, and Kidd would love to have a guy on the floor that unequiv...

Report: "Growing belief" that Kevin Garnett will play one more year, retire, and join T-wolves management

In the NBA vernacular, this is known as a "Woj bomb". Or a nugget of information that for many writers would be a major scoop, but for Yahoo! Sports Adrian Wojnarowski, who breaks nearly every major NBA story, is just worthy of a sentence or two in paragraph six. Tonight, while discussing Doc Rivers joining the Clippers, Woj discussed how the deal impacted both Chris...

Wolves Likely To Pursue Garnett For Post-Playing Career Role

The Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to pursue Kevin Garnett for a ceremonial role in their ownership when he retires from the NBA, according to sources. Garnett has two seasons remaining on his contract with the Boston Celtics, but may play just one more season before reuniting with Flip Saunders. "The opportunity will be there for him," one source said, "but there...

Report: NBA hasn't confirmed Rivers-to-Clippers deal

As of Monday afternoon, the NBA still had not approved the deal for Doc Rivers to join the Clippers as their new coach and for the Boston Celtics to receive a first-round pick in 2015 from L.A. The two sides had agreed in principle on the deal Sunday. According to one league official, the NBA has been waiting to get all the necessary paperwork from the Clippers, Celtics and Rivers...

Report: Nets inquire about KG

The report states Nets general manager Billy King made a call to the Celtics to ask about Garnett, but did not receive an answer amid the current uncertainty in Boston. The...

Rivers Will Have Final Say On Clippers' Basketball Decisions

Doc Rivers will have final say on all basketball decisions in his dual role as head coach and senior vice president of basketball operations for the Los Angeles Clippers. Rivers' job title places him above vice president of basketball operations Gary Sacks. "I've always been open to working with the coach on everything and everybody incorporating our entire front office...

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, the Nets and Celtics are in advanced talks about a blockbuster deal that would send veterans, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Nets are in advanced talks with the Boston Celtics to...

Report: NBA Approves Deal Sending Doc Rivers to Clippers in Exchange for 2015 First-Round Pick

It appears the Doc Rivers saga has finally concluded. It was originally reported Sunday afternoon that the Celtics and Clippers had agreed to a deal that would send Rivers to Los Angeles and a first-round draft pick in 2015 to Boston as compensation. That proposal could not be completed without league approval, though, which has now reportedly been granted. Sources confirmed to ESPN’s...

Clippers, Celtics complete deal that sends Doc Rivers to Los Angeles

The Clippers finalized a deal with the Boston Celtics yesterday that allowed them to sign Doc Rivers in exchange for a 2015 unprotected first-round draft pick.Rivers and the Clippers have reportedly agreed to a three-year, $21 million contract. It’s been reported...

Report: Kevin Garnett Targeted by Nets, But Celtics Still Unsure About Moving Him, Paul Pierce

The Nets may not have gotten far when it came to Doc Rivers taking over their bench, but that won’t keep them from trying for the next best thing from the Celtics. The New York Daily News reports that Nets general manager Billy King has asked the Celtics about acquiring Kevin Garnett. While Garnett has a no-trade clause that he has previously said he would not waive, Rivers’...

Rivers To Have More Personnel Control With Clippers

Doc Rivers will have more control on personnel decisions with the Los Angeles Clippers than he did with the Boston Celtics. Rivers had a good relationship with Danny Ainge, but was far from the final decision-maker. Gary Sacks is the general manager of the Clippers though he has been in the position for just one season.

Guess That Doc Trade Went Through After All

After much too much talking, the Celtics and Clippers finally agreed to trade Doc Rivers yesterday, and as a result Los Angeles now has a new coach. And, they’re hoping, a worldclass point guard ready to resign. It all makes sense. Here’s what doesn’t make sense though – 2 weeks of negotiations yielded Boston…a 2014 1st round pick? Right, the Celts need to get younger,...

The moment the Celtics needed Doc most, he decided it was time to go

One day after Danny Ainge told his side of the story, Doc Rivers spoke to the media in Los Angeles, and then held a conference call with the Boston media. Doc was his normal self at the press conference, showing off his sense of humor and his graciousness when Clippers management said he was the best coach in basketball, "Let's stop with that 'best coach in basketball...

Window Closing

Not sure what to call this digital art/commentary but it certainly brings us no delight this afternoon as reality of an ending era is made palpable by the recent departure of Doc Rivers and current talk of moving KG and Pierce to Brooklyn. But recall when this current crop of Celtics were brought together back in 2007-08 and how the proverbial window was conservatively estimated...

Celtics to hire an unproven new head coach, Antoine Walker thinks he should be the guy

The wiggle. Jackie MacMullan went on ESPN last night and said she expects Boston to hire a young (and cheap) up and comer to replace Doc Rivers, rather than an established veteran.  Gary Washburn reiterated the same thing on Sportscenter this morning.  Yesterday Adrian Wojnarowski wrote that Doc is likely taking his assistants Tyronn Lue and Kevin Eastman to LA with him, and in...
