Let’s look at the Bucks last 8 games, during which they have gone 1-7, and have attempted to completely crush my love of the Bucks and my basketball spirit in general. L – Denver – 112-104 – Bucks get outscored 33-18 in the 4th. L – Utah – 100-86 – Bucks never really in it. L – Detroit – 105-100 – Vinneneuva hits a 3 w 10 secs left. Jennings has a chance to tie, but for some reason heaves up a 31 footer with 3.5 secs left as he is kinda falling out of bounds (I think he thought they would call a foul – come on man!) L – Washington 102-90 – Jennings shoots 17%. Team shoots 30% in Quarters 2-4. (I think this is probably the one that sealed the deal and made Hammond pull the trigger on Reddik – get me somebody that can shoot!!) W – Phillie – 94-92 – Ellis makes a free throw in crunch time (not always the case, see NJ game) and Mbah gets a steal to seal the victory. L – NJ – 113-110 – Bucks let the Nets hang around, and sure enough Joe Johnson hits a 3 at end of regulation to tie it(over poor defense), and a 15 footer with time expiring in overtime to win it (over pretty good defense). L – NJ – 97-94 – Bucks make an impressive 11-2 run in final minutes to come back, but then Ellis has a chance to tie it with freethrows and misses all of em. Ouch. L – Atl – 103- 102 – Bucks up 10 w about 4 minutes left, but you can just feel it coming. Yep, the Bucks let em back in it with turnovers and poor execution (not sure why they brought Jennings back in, he was struggling). Ellis hits a tough lay up w 10 secs left for the lead, Horford commits an offensive foul that isn’t called and scores to give Hawks lead w 5 secs left. Then Ellis for some reason brings the ball up at half speed and attempts a leaning runner from the free throw line that rattles out, Bucks lose. Due to the half speed, no time for rebounding. Why am I reliving all this? I’m not sure. Pretty depressing for a Bucks fan. But even with all this poor 4th quarter execution, you haven’t crushed me yet Bucks. I’m still gonna watch you guys. Why? I don’t know, glutton for punishment I guess. Or maybe, despite how crushing many of the above losses were, it really feels like the Bucks outplayed the other teams for the most part, only to let it slip away due to some tough breaks and big shots by the opposition. And hey, there are things to be optimistic about right? Reddik looked pretty good (Hammond says the trade was all about winning now…hmmm, I guess). The Bucks don’t have a back to the basket go to scorer. But they do have speed, and now, a duo of three point sharp shooters. JJ spaces the floor obviously. If Jennings and Ellis can just commit to being penetrate and kick first type players, rather than heaving deep threes themselves, they should find themselves shooting layups consistently (I think Monta only took one of those ******** threes last night, and looked like a true point guard at times when playing with Reddik). Just get those fancy pants Duke boys open a few times, and then Jennings and Ellis can practically waltz down the lane. Not sure how often the Bucks can get away with playing all three guards at once, but they did it quite a bit last night, and it seemed to work. Watching Reddik and Dunleavy work off those baseline screens at the same time is a thing of beauty. Sanders is still owning the paint, and Ersan is playing pretty well. (Yes, I think those are plays on his arm – the play should be “stand on three point line, receive pass from penetrating poing guard, shoot silky smooth jumper”) This team can win, I know it. So come on now Bucks, I’m not giving up on you. Please, just quit ******** the bed at crunch time, quit heaving ridiculous threes, everybody play to their strengths, the wins will come and the 7 or 6 seed can be had. And maybe a series victory (any team except the Heat could be upset). Otherwise, it’s a first round beat down by the Heat, or even worse, Detroit or Phillie catches up. Note: Yes, I realize shooting for a 6 or 7 seed as a goal is kinda sad. But hey, life as a Bucks fan has never been easy. Lots of lows, a few highs. But loving the Bucks is ABOUT the struggle. It is ABOUT the baby steps and it is about the process. Admit it, the Packers were way more interesting when they were up and coming. When they win all the time, the thrill is gone baby, the thrill is gone. Lots of thrills from the Bucks lately, just been on the wrong side the last few times.
