ST. FRANCIS, Wis. With the No. 14 pick in the NBA draft, the Milwaukee Bucks have selected North Carolina power forward John Henson. After trading for Samuel Dalembert a defensive-minded center on Wednesday, Milwaukee added another defensive-minded big in Henson, a player known for his shot-blocking and rebounding ability. Henson, however, is one of the skinniest players in the draft, weighing in at just 216 pounds despite measuring 6-10. In his junior season at North Carolina, Henson averaged 13.7 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks. Known as one of the best defensive post men in the draft, he was a favorite of Milwaukee's when he worked out for the team June 19. The Bucks said at that workout that they didn't expect Henson to be available at No. 12, and that was before moving down two picks in the Dalembert trade. "If teams saw what we did today, I suspect that he won't be there at 12," Bucks director of scouting McKinney said at that workout. "Obviously we like him, but he's not going to be there at 12 when we select. It's a matter of, is it practical for us to move up? The teams that are ahead of us probably value him as much as we would." Henson's superior ability to rack up blocks has earned him a fairly generous comparison. "One comparison recently has been (Serge) Ibaka," Henson said, referencing the NBA's leading shot blocker, who plays in Oklahoma City. "He blocks shots. There's no plays that they usually run for him because they have those crazy good scorers, so he hits the open shots and finishes where he can."That's the type of player I feel I can be right now."
