Milwaukee Bucks guard O.J. Mayo has been suspended one game by the league for "forcibly" striking Pelicans center Greg Stiemsma in Friday night's 112-104 loss to New Orleans. Mayo will sit out Saturday night's home game against Washington. He's the second Bucks player to be suspended in as many days, as Ersan Ilyasova sat out Friday after being disciplined for punching Kings forward Reggie Evans in the stomach on Wednesday. Upset after appearing to get hit in the face after a hard screen set by Stiemsma, Mayo extended an open-handed blow to the throat of the former University of Wisconsin center with 1:52 left in the first quarter. Mayo was hit with a flagrant-2 foul and was ejected from the game. Mayo reportedly apologized to his teammates in the locker room following the game. "I reacted the wrong way and handled it for sure the wrong way," Mayo told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "I just want to apologize to the Bucks fan base, the city of Milwaukee and obviously New Orleans and the (fans) who came out and watched the game. "It's definitely the wrong way to conduct yourself. I've got to be better and I will be better." Signed to a three-year, $24 million contract this summer, Mayo is averaging 11.8 points in 49 games for Milwaukee this season.
