The Majors Detroit:
San Antonio Spurs
It seems like forever since the Pistons were relevant in the NBA. It has been almost a decade since they played for a NBA Title, and the last time they had an over .500 record was the 2007-2008 season. Is this year going to be the year to return to the promise land?
The Detroit Pistons have made a couple of moves this off season, bringing in some sub superstar level, high end talent. Trading for Brandon Jennings from Milwaukee and signing Josh Smith away from Atlanta in free agency has given the Pistons some name power and talent creating with the basketball.
In the NBA it is very rare for a championship to be won by a complete team effort, it is usually won by star power. It has been this way forever. You can argue that the 2003/04 Pistons and some of the recent San Antonio Spurs teams have been the only exception to the rule for a very long time. Tweet Pistons forward Andre Drummond has a ton of potential but was one of the worst free-throw shooters in the NBA last season, connecting on just 59 of his 159 attempts on the year for a .371 percentage. Since the conventional method didn’t work too well for Drummond last year, apparently he’s trying something new via his personal Vine...
The Detroit Pistons opened up the preseason last night with a 91-69 win over Israeli Super Basketball League champion Maccabi Haifa. The preseason isn’t much of a meter to gauge how a team will play in the regular season (especially when the game is untelevised), but the Pistons did some encouraging things last night worthy of mentioning, and some things not so good that’s worthy...

AUBURN HILLS -- At least Rodney Stuckey wasn't trying to save a pizza.

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Pistons head coach Maurice Cheeks will choose between Billups or Rodney Stuckey at the shooting guard position.
Cheeks could change his mind, but he said he is a “veteran’s coach.”

Drummond and the Pistons dominated inside with 54 points in the paint - just 15 points fewer than Maccabi scored all game.
As the Oct. 30 opener against the Washington Wizards inches closer Pistons coach Maurice Cheeks is revealing more of his thoughts about the playing rotation.
After Wednesday’s practice he was asked if he could play five guards as part of the rotation and he was pretty definitive.
“You can’t” Cheeks said. “How can you do it? I don’t think you can do it. It wouldn’t...
