Fox Sports Southwest:
Rick Carlisle's night began on a jovial note as he compared himself to 'Colonel Sanders.' But that game of Chicken became something else all together on Monday when the coach accused the Jazz of 'thugging it up' in the Mavs' 100-94 loss at Utah.
The Dallas Mavericks benefitted from "Dirk being Dirk" (20 points in 32 minutes). They closed quarters (a 9-2 edge to end the first, a 20-12 run to close the third). And they even tried to fight back from what Carlisle labeled Utah's "thuggish" play, which included a body slam away from the ball of Dirk Nowitzki.
But night by night, the fight is being knocked out of Dallas, 100-94 losers and now sharing a 13-22 record that places them alongside Sacramento among the dregs of the West.
"I'm proud of the guys and how we battled," said Dirk, saying the right thing after a firestorm that had some confused followers mistakenly thinking he wanted out of Dallas. "Just that littl...

DALLAS Mark Cuban's Dallas Mavericks have a multitude of problems and at 13-21, they can use all the help they can get. But in the opinion of the owner, the NBA's state of officiating is just as disconcerting. So he's asking for help there, too.
"I'm sorry, NBA fans," Cuban tweeted almost immediately after Saturday's Mavs loss to lowly New Orleans...
Dirk Nowitzki has plenty to be frustrated about, but the Dallas Mavericks star forward missed mcuh of the season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his knee. He should have expected a tough road upon his return. Unfortunately, the road has been far more difficult than most expected. Dallas is now eight games under .500 and far from looking like a play-off contender....
It was not only a heart-breaker, it was a battle of the ages for the Dallas Mavericks in Utah. This made the 12 loss in 14 games and the Mavs are still in the 12th spot in the Western Conference.
How many of you are old enough to have witnessed the “Fight of the Century”? The Thrilla in Manila as it was called, was the third of three fights between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier...
After a very disappointing loss to one of the worst teams in the league, New Orleans Hornets, the Dallas Mavericks are now sinking to the bottom of the league with them. I can remember when we referred to the other opponent as “the struggling whoever” and now we are referred to as the struggling opponent; no one fears us at all any more, no one.
We have lost to almost every team...
Coach Rick Carlisle feels the Dallas Mavericks have bottomed out.
Dirk Nowitzki thinks his own situation is a work in progress.
Following their 11th defeat in 13 games, Carlisle and the Mavericks are hoping Nowitzki can help them turn things around Monday night against the host Utah Jazz.
Dallas (13-21) is only two seasons removed from winning its first NBA title, and it has reached...
Dirk Nowitzki has been a Dallas Maverick a long time, actually almost 14 years to be exact. The Mavericks have made the playoffs 12 straight season, but that will likely end this year.
Nowitzki is 34 years old and not interested in a rebuilding plan. Dirk is frustrated with the Mavs front office and personnel choices, namely letting Tyson Chandler walk, and according to ESPN Dallas...
NEW YORK — Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has been fined $50,000 by the NBA for publicly criticizing the officiating.
Cuban, who has been fined more than $1.5 million by the league during his 13 years owning the Mavs, expressed his frustration with the officiating on his Twitter page following the Mavericks’ 99-96 overtime loss to New Orleans on Saturday.
Many of us have had dreams of playing one-on-one with our favorite NBA players but one little Dallas Mavericks fan at a Dallas-area hospital got the chance of a lifetime to play one-on-one with Dirk Nowitzki. The little boy's name is Will Kolassa and watch as he shows off his range against Dirk on a mini basketball hoop in his room:(Courtesy of Bush League Chronicles)
Any time a player goes through the entire offseason without any training camp, he is going to need some time to get back into the swing of things. The Dallas Mavericks played it safe with Dirk Nowitzki, who had offseason knee surgery and missed the first quarter of the season. He came off of the bench and was limited to right around 20 minutes per game for his first six games, but...
In an exclusive interview with FOX Sports, Mavs owner Mark Cuban is responding to some incendiary comments from his superstar Dirk Nowitzki regarding the club's future and it's plan to acquire a "big fish."
"Dirk," Cuban tells us, "gets annoyed with our team every year. He uses his annoyance as motivation... Dirk gets upset when we go through a tough...
Every time you think Mike James is out of the league, the NBA sucks him right back in.
But this time it just might be for good (or at least the next 10 days) with the Dallas Mavericks who will sign the veteran point guard to a 10-day according to multiple published reports.
Do not look at the 37-year old James signing with the Mavs simply as one aging leader replacing another...
