Carmelo Anthony started getting love from basketball fans everywhere after he led USA past Nigeria last Thursday in their dominating, 83-point victory. Anthony would break an Olympic-record for most points in a game, scoring 37 in 14 minutes off the bench — including ten three-pointers.

However, Anthony has gone through a lot this past season. After LeBron James finally won a championship, the newest person to make fun of is Melo, who is deemed selfish and a player that can’t win a ring. And now there are memes everywhere about him.

But the New York Knicks star says he isn’t selfish. Everything all started because of Jeremy Lin and the crazy of “Linsanity.”

“Let’s be frank about it,” he said. “When it comes to the Knicks, we’re talking about one particular point in time. We’re talking about the whole ‘Linsanity’ thing. That’s when it started. That’s when it started to escalate as far as people saying I was selfish.

“Lin came and we started winning games and then we started losing games, and they could only point to one thing, which is me, the leader of the team. They’re not going to point to Amar’e. They’re not going to point to (guard) Iman Shumpert. They’re going to point to me. I accept that. It doesn’t bother me.”

I’m kinda in on what he’s saying. I really don’t think he’s entirely selfish, though he is at times. He isn’t a great big star, but I would see he’s more like a rich man’s Danny Granger. Everything works out perfectly if you make the plays for him that you need. If you don’t, he struggles. That’s just how it is for some of these guys.

Do you believe what Anthony is saying?

Carmelo Anthony Attempts to Author in Revisionist History, Insists 'Selfish' Tag Originated During Linsanity

Carmelo Anthony says nobody called him a selfish player until Jeremy Lin came along. USA vs. Nigeria: Player Grades

Team USA set a new Olympic record today with their jaw-dropping 83-point victory over Nigeria. The 83-point victory was the highest scoring game in Olympic history, which is why it seems only fitting that Carmelo Anthony’s 37-points were the most scored in an Olympic game by an American: “It’s unexplainable, that’s the only thing I can say about it,” said Carmelo Anthony...

Knicks’ fans settle with Carmelo as last hope after Linsanity

Last year it was the over hyping of a one, Jeremy Lin, just after a few games.  Most of us were scratching our heads to why the New York Knicks fans were blowing this “Linsanity” thing way out of proportion.  Especially when we watched their counter-parts, Jets and Giants fans, scratching their heads over the “Tebow Mania” fiasco.  I am still not understanding why...

Did Lithuania expose Team USA flaws?

When Linas Kleiza sized up Carmelo Anthony, his former teammate in Denver, fastened his grip on the ball and rose up to sink a 3-pointer, it was not necessary to hear the roar of the pro-Lithuanian crowd to know what was happening. All you had to do was look at the United States' bench. The cheering, towel-waving and joking around that had been ever present during the Olympics...

(Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images) Nothing is easy… This was a close one, but the USA men get the 99-94 win over Lithuania.
