Found February 24, 2014 on Pass The Pill:
The story of this NBA season will always boil down to what the New York Knicks did, in terms of whether or not they were able to keep superstar forward, Carmelo Anthony, in the Big Apple. No matter who wins the league MVP, or the NBA Finals, we’ll all remember whether or not the Knicks were able to keep Melo as their cornerstone. Between the chatter, the losing, and the potential of greener pastures, Carmelo’s intentions have been the target of much speculation throughout the 2013-14 NBA season. Carmelo talked about losing, and the potential of missing out on playoffs for the first time in his professional career. “I can’t imagine what that’s like,” he said. “I’m not even trying to think about that at this point. We still got a lot of basketball to play.” But Anthony admits his optimism is “definitely being tested” this season, and you wonder if his desire to stay with the Knicks is too. It seems as if we’ve see this movie before. Remember that Dwight Howard was on and off the fence about as much as one could possibly be, prior to fleeing Orlando. Players say the right things in order to keep their image in tact, but when frustration sets in, it’s almost as if they toss around passive-aggressive threats. “Finding a way to finish out games, finish out quarters is something we got to do and we have to do, coming down these next 20-something games that we have.” No matter what, the Knicks’ goal should be to retain their star, and bring in some help. Easier said than done, I know. But the fact remains that their chances to win a championship are far better with a talented player leading the charge.
