Larry Brown Sports:
One of the more stunning aspects of Jason Collins’ announcement that he is gay is that he dated women and was engaged to be married for years. His ex-fiancee, Carolyn Moos, said on Tuesday that she never suspected he was gay. The two were together for eight years before Collins called off their wedding in 2009. Even though the announcement likely stunned Moos, she says it helped clear up a lot for her.
“The biggest thing is not being aware of it or having something that is a little unexpected. It actually provided a lot of explanation for something that provided,” Moos told “Amani & Eytan” on NBC Sports Radio during the week.
Moos says Collins will be in her life forever and that she wants him to be happy because he is “an amazing person.”
“To hear that from him probably alleviated a portion of my confusion and my pain in 2009,” Moos told hosts Amani Toomer and Eytan Shander.
Moos says Collins was really good at pretending to be straight and projecting that image. She’s not m...

No one really wants to put out there that Jason Collins was a jerk for lying to his fiancee and girlfriend of eight years. No real justification for letting someone believe you are straight, when you are really gay for a decade.
Moos understandably is upset because she had planned on having a life and children with Collins, but those plans were derailed, so while Collins is...

When the site Ultimate Rockets broke the news on Tuesday that the Westboro Baptist Church intended to protest outside of Chesapeake Energy Arena on Wednesday during Game 5 of the Western Conference quarterfinals game between the Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder, it was assumed that an ugly scene was not only possible, but likely. The Westboro Baptist Church is notorious...

He tweeted that ''as we began to move in...

On Monday morning, NBA veteran revealed to the word that he was gay. In a well written piece in Sports Illustrated, Collins told his story and announced that “he didn’t set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport. But since he is, he’s happy to start the conversation.”Collins, indeed, started the conversation. But he also created a few...

I can only start this column one way.
I stand with Jason Collins.
I stand with the LGBT community.
Now the question is, will NBA teams?
One of the things that makes sports special is that every so often, the games intersect with reality – the teams are forces of change, good and healing.
We saw that yesterday as the Portland Timbers hosted Atticus Lane-Dupre...

True pioneer? Not exactly.
Now that we've had a few days to reflect on what it means for Collins to come out as gay, it's time to recognize what this really was - a significant step, to be sure, but hardly a slam-dunk...
You've probably never heard of Holly Peterson or Jonathan Jean-Pierre. One came out as a lesbian at age 15, when she was playing high school basketball. The other, a college rower, told his teammates last year that he's gay.
There was little fanfare for either. There were no headlines as there were this past week when NBA player Jason Collins declared that he is gay, making...
Random questions is back. I don't have a good name for the series outside of random questions. If you have an idea, please let me know and I'll put it to good use. If you aren't aware, this series is me asking people a handful of random questions that I think of at the time. That's pretty much it. Some are sports related. Most are not.
This week I'm joined...
