Cavaliers-varejao-reacts
The Cleveland Cavaliers have been without Anderson Varejao for 10 games now, and he will not play tonight.  This comes after being diagnosed with a bruised knee.  That's right, a bruised knee.  If we are considering the history of injury diagnoses in the NBA this season, we may want to disregard the initial diagnosis.  Remember Steve Nash's shin contusion? According to an Associated Press report (via NBA.com), Anderson Varejao still has not been cleared for practice.  He was supposed to practice yesterday, but the injury appears to be more serious.  Coach Byron Scott talked about Varejao's knee, but he didn't sound too positive about Varejao even returning this year."I'm still trying to be very optimistic that he'll be able to play, I just don't know when," said Scott, whose young, struggling team is 8-28. "I hope I'm not talking like it's long-term or for the season. I'm still optimistic he'll be able to play this year until the doctors tell me something different."Varejao banged his knee in a game against the Toronto Raptors in December.  He has not played since.  The Cavaliers' center has averaged 14.1 points per game and 14.4 rebounds per game this season.  He has been the driving force for both the offense and defense this season.  The Cavaliers struggled with him on the court, but they struggle so much more without him. Cleveland is 8-28 this season.  They are competing with the Charlotte Bobcats and Washington Wizard for the most ping-pong balls in this summer's draft lottery.
