Pierce
Could Paul Pierce be playing alongside Kyrie Irving next year? The Cleveland Cavaliers must think they are a piece away from contending because reports are surfacing of a potential trade that would bring Paul Pierce to Cleveland in exchange for multiple second round draft picks. A veteran presence like Paul Pierce could be exactly what a young Cleveland team needs in order to make that next push into the playoffs. The Cavs also have the first round pick in this month’s NBA Draft, so a quick turnaround could be very likely. And of course, the LeBron James opt out situation at the end of next season is the elephant in the room for the Cavaliers franchise. The team will have the cap room to bring back its former superstar and potentially pair him with Kyrie Irving, Paul Pierce, Dion Waiters and a young stud in this year’s draft. This would be very appeasing for any free agent. Old friend Anderson Varejao will still be in Cleveland as well.  The interesting dynamic would be if LeBron James’ old foe, Paul Pierce is playing for the Cavs franchise. The two battled for years and there was a clear dislike between LeBron’s teams (Cavs/Heat) and the Boston teams that featured Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, Rajon Rondo and Paul Pierce. Via Baxter Holmes/Globe Staff: The Cleveland Cavaliers are interested in the possibility of acquiring Celtics forward Paul Pierce, a league source confirmed to the Globe Monday, and reportedly the Cavaliers have discussed the possibility of offering multiple second-round draft picks in exchange for him. However, the source told the Globe any talks are very much in the preliminary stages. That said, Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge would no doubt be interested in acquiring assets, such as draft picks, that could help rebuild the Celtics going forward. Pierce who will be turning 36 next season is coming off a solid year for the Celtics. Although he struggled in the playoffs, he was forced to become more of playmaker instead of feeding off Rajon Rondo. With that said, the aging forward still averaged 18.6 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game last season.
