Cavs Notes: Ty Jerome, Dean Wade, Donovan Mitchell
Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

While the Cavaliers have offered no specifics on the right ankle injury to reserve guard Ty Jerome, it’s very clearly pretty serious. He appeared in just the first two games of the season, playing five minutes in the first and nine in the second.

Per Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, Jerome was recently hesitant to land on the ankle when going through shooting practice. Also, coach J.B. Bickerstaff has said that Jerome is ways away from returning.

The injury is being called a severe right ankle sprain. He recently had a cast placed on it and is expected to be re-evaluated in about a week, Fedor reported.

Jerome, 26, spent last season with the Golden State Warriors and averaged 6.9 points in 45 appearances.

  • Forward Dean Wade has missed the last four games with an ankle injury but was putting up shots after practice on Wednesday, per Fedor. Wade hasn’t been shooting or scoring much in games, but the Cavs value how he has served as an X-factor by defending, grabbing rebounds and making hustle plays.
  • Star guard Donovan Mitchell after his 40-point outburst on Tuesday after struggling in the previous two games: “The biggest thing is to keep going. At the end of the day, we went 1-1 in those games, so I’m not going to be upset. But for me, trying to find my rhythm. And it helps when you have the support of teammates saying, ‘Keep going, keep pushing,’ it’s easy.”
