By Mike Shalin, The Sports Xchange BOSTON -- The short-handed Celtics won their third straight game Friday night, cruising to a 97-84 victory over the woeful Magic. Five days after he and his team learned Rajon Rondo would be lost for the season, rookie Jared Sullinger underwent back surgery and also will be lost for the year. But after beating Miami in double overtime Sunday, the Celtics have disposed of two weak opponents and the three-game winning streak, coming on the heels of losing six in a row, has Boston back to .500 at 23-23. The Magic lost their eighth in a row, their 19th in the last 21 games; and the seventh straight to the Celtics. Orlando is 0-13 against the Atlantic Division. Boston's Paul Pierce scored 14 points and had 11 rebounds and seven assists in 29 minutes, while Jeff Green came off the bench to score 17 points. Kevin Garnett had 14 points and 10 rebounds and the Celtics had six players reach double figures for the second straight game. The Bos...

Bad news on Jared Sullinger

Remember when Jared Sullinger slid in the draft because of back problems? Jared Sullinger left last night's game early in the first quarter. He entered the locker room and never returned. The Celtics won anyway but obviously the team can't afford many more injuries to their key players after losing Rajon Rondo for the season. The report came out that it was back spasms...

Celtics Win First Without Rondo 99-81

On Wednesday night the Celtics faced the Kings in what might have be the last time a Sacramento team comes to the TD Garden. The Celtics looked to begin the first chapter of their season without Rajon Rondo who was diagnosed with a torn ACL after pregame warm-ups Sunday. The Kings came to town amidst a potential relocation to Seattle and looked to get their second win over the Celtics...

Rajon Rondo’s Torn ACL Could Force Celtics to Shuffle Players at Trade Deadline

For much of the 2012-13 season, it appeared as though the Boston Celtics might be able to hang on to their spot among the Eastern Conference’s elite, that no longer seems to be the case. Not on the NBA moneyline, at least, where their odds of winning the NBA championship have dipped to 30-1. This, we’ll remind you, is a team whose been a mainstay within the NBA futures’ top...

Celtics Roll Over Magic, Move To 3-0 Post-Rondo

Celtics 97, Magic 84 A Celtics team that is reeling from injuries was fortunate enough to match up against an Orlando Magic squad that came into Friday Night’s game having lost 18 of their last 20. Boston (23-23) pulled away with a 14-4 run to begin the fourth quarter and ended up winning by double-digits for the second consecutive game. Inevitably, this will only fuel the...

RedsArmy presents: Fan Friday #39: “Family Affair”

I had the pleasure of meeting Ica, this week’s featured fan, and her family at last Sunday’s Celtics-Heat game. It was Ica’s first ever time to TD Garden and what a game she got to watch! It was somewhat bittersweet for her, as Rajon Rondo, her favorite Celtic, missed the game due to a season-ending ACL injury. But Ica did not let that dampen her spirits-she still enjoyed cheering...

JR Smith unhappy with second snub

When Rajon Rondo went down for the season, the Knicks guard thought he had a real shot to be named as his All-Star replacement, but alas, it just was not meant to be.

Celtics’ Jared Sullinger To Miss Rest Of The Season With Back Injury

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, Celtics rookie Jared Sullinger will need surgery on his back and will miss the remainder of the season. This is a another blow to the Celtics who lost their leader, Rajon Rondo, Sunday to a torn ACL. Sullinger, averaging 6 points and 5.9 rebounds per game in his rookie season with the Celtics, left Wednesday’s game against the Kings...

Live Game Updates - Magic @ Celtics

6:54: The Celtics may win tonight but they have had an overall bad day. They have released news that, following back surgery, rookie Jared Sullinger will miss the rest of the season. This is the second time in the last five days that a star player has gone down, following Sunday's announcement that Rondo will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. On the bright side, they...

Your Morning Dump… Where the Celtics WILL add two bodies (eventually)

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. “We have two open roster spots, which we will use when it’s all said and done,” said Ainge. “So three weeks from now, we will have 13 contracts. But we’re not in a rush yet. We have trade possibilities...

Comments from the Other Side - Magic 2/1

What would a Comments post be without a wheelchair mention and some officiating complaints.   Seems like they are in every thread.  Love that our bench is producing so well these past few games.   I was stuck with the Magic feed last night.  I missed Mike and Tommy but even worse, they kept getting the names of the Celtics wrong.   I've highlighted my favorites.  What...

Next man up: Boston Celtics breeze by Orlando Magic 97-84

With tonight’s victory over the Orlando Magic the Celtics have won three in a row and clawed their way back to .500. Forgive me if I’m not all sunshine and duck boats, but I don’t think wins over the Sacramento Kings and the Orlando Magic (without Glen Davis and Aaron Afflalo!) tell us anything about where this team stands after the loss of Rajon Rondo (and now Jared Sullinger...

Celtics look to extend winning streak against Los Angeles Clippers

The Celtics are feeling pretty good about their recent success without two of their key players and are looking to continue building on it.  They are feeling more comfortable with the run and gun style and have found it has made them more aggressive with their attacks. They have managed to beat the Miami Heat during this revival of grit and balls; but since the Heat are a natural...
