BOSTON -- Celtics coach Doc Rivers was hoping his team would turn up the defensive pressure in Friday night's game against the Indiana Pacers. The coach got his wish, and Boston ended a four-game losing streak with a 94-75 handling of Indiana, the first-place team in the Central Division. The 75 points allowed marked a season-best for the Celtics, while the Pacers, whose two-game winning streak ended, managed to beat their previous low of 72. "Well, this year, for sure," Rivers said when asked if his team put in its best 48 minutes of defense. "I think we had another game ... it's funny, I think the team scored a hundred points, but I thought our defense against Oklahoma City (Nov. 23) was phenomenal but they still scored a hundred -- they've got a guy named (Kevin) Durant that's pretty good." David West (17.2) and Paul George (16.9), Indiana's two-leading scorers, were both 4-for-18 from the floor, as the Pacers shot just 31.8 percent...

During his weekly appearance on WEEI, Doc Rivers elaborated on the team’s recent struggles.
“We’ve been inconsistent,” Rivers said. “Defense one night, offense last night. The first half last night we scored points and couldn’t get stops, the second half we got stops and couldn’t score points.”
Rivers was asked to identify the biggest reason for the struggles of...
Doc Rivers says he's more concerned about the fact that the Celtics haven't won more than 2 in a row this season than losing 4 straight. Below Doc discusses if he cares how players react to losses.

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here… highlighting the big storyline. Because there’s nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump.
“I thought Rondo, as far as health-wise, I thought he was fine,” coach Doc Rivers said. “With the way we’re not scoring, and you could see Kevin[Garnett] struggle today with his shot, we really need ...
All Celtics fans heard entering this season was that the team had built itself a deep bench, and that the second and third units would be among the best in the NBA.
That’s been far from the case, however, as the C’s reserves have struggled — particularly when Kevin Garnett is parked on the bench — and the results haven’t been pretty. Boston was beat on Wednesday night by...
Doc Rivers is happy to see Gerald Green having success with the Pacers, bringing energy off the bench, staying humble and being a professional for a team with championship aspirations.
Those are all things Rivers advised Green to do as a member of the Celtics from 2005 to 2007 — instructions to which Green, now 26, never listened.
Before Green’s new team took on the Celtics at...
Jared Sullinger continues to make a case to be in the Celtics starting line-up
Rejoice! The Boston Celtics finally broke a four game losing streak by beating the Indiana Pacers on Friday night. Coming after a lack-luster performance on Wednesday night against the Memphis Grizzlies, the Boston Celtics went back to something that catapulted them to the Atlantic Division crown a year...
For the second consecutive night, the Boston Celtics (16-17) find a way to come out victorious in a back-to-back setting beating the Atlanta Hawks (20-12) 89-81.
Doc Rivers’ team experienced a tale of halves tonight. To start off the game the Celtics were horrific with no rhythm on offense and a lack of defense.

BOSTON — Doc Rivers sensed the game going downhill fast, with his own physical Celtics team matched up against an equally hard-nosed Pacers squad. Things were getting so chippy, Rivers sent Brandon Bass to the scorer’s table to replace Kevin Garnett before something bad happened.
Rivers turned out to be a beat too late.
With Bass waiting to substitute, Garnett was slapped with...
Jared Sullinger may be a rookie, but he sure doesn’t play like one.
That’s been a recurring theme during an up-and-down season (thus far) for the Celtics. The rest of the squad may be woefully inconsistent up to this point, but Sullinger has played far beyond his years, bringing stability off the bench to the power forward position.
After opening the new year by losing their...
Jason Terry declined to tell reporters what was addressed in the locker room after the Celtics’ loss to the Grizzlies on Wednesday, when coach Doc Rivers took an abnormally long time to show up in the press room for his postgame news conference. The coach may have chewed out his players, or he might have pulled up a chair in the middle of the locker room for a team-wide heart-to...

ATLANTA -- Down 53-38 to the Atlanta Hawks at halftime, the Boston Celtics were snapping at each other and at coach Doc Rivers. Paul Pierce had had enough. "Don't get mad at Doc. He's coaching," Pierces said. "We've got to get mad at this other team. "I just said we wanted to bring the fight to them. We were kind of bickering at each other a little...
After listening to Doc Rivers lecture the Boston Celtics at halftime, Paul Pierce told his teammates to respect their coach and follow orders.
''We were kind of bickering at each other a little bit too much, figuring out what defense we were going to run,'' Pierce said. ''And I just had to say that the fight ain't with one another. It's against the...
Frustrations apparently got the best of the Celtics following their embarrassing 1st half effort on Saturday night in Atlanta. When the halftime buzzer sounded, the C's were trailing 53-38, and just about all of the defensive momentum the team had generated in dominating 94-75 win against the Pacers on Friday - had dissipated.
No surprise then, that the team was not thrilled...
