9 a.m. ET: Paul Pierce could not have looked much sharper than he did Tuesday, when the Celtics forward scored 29 points in a one-point loss to the Nets. Those same Nets host Pierce and the Celtics on Thursday at the newly minted Barclays Center. This is the sixth of eight preseason games for the Celtics, who are still a long way from knowing exactly what starting lineup and rotation they will employ once the regular season begins. Whether the Nets, who rested their top six players on Tuesday, will give a few more minutes to Deron Williams, Joe Johnson and others in this game remains to be seen. Join us for updates and analysis during the game, which tips off at 8 p.m.

Post-game “why we looked so awesome” quote-off: KG vs. Rondo

A couple of quotes after last night’s game have slipped under the radar.  Both are awesome explanations about why the Celtics looked so good against Brooklyn last night… and both are so perfectly indicative of the person who uttered them.  I could not tell you who said them, and there’s no doubt in my mind you could figure out who they came from. But I’ll tell you anyway...

Assistant Coach Rajon Rondo

We know it's bound to happen once in a while. The head coach has a player's back and the ref has enough and out goes the coach. It's happened a few times with Doc and will probably happen again. Last night, Doc put his coaches in that position by staying in the locker room after the half. Word is that Doc just wanted to watch the presidential debate but that's...

Rajon Rondo’s Ben Affleck Problem

Rajon Rondo and Ben Affleck have the same problem. It’s called the “yeah, but…” syndrome. This disease forces someone  to bring up a person’s shortcomings whenever they are complimented. Here’s an example. Imagine you’re talking with friend and Affleck comes up. You say, “ Hey I just saw Argo. It’s fantastic. Ben Affleck has totally established himself as one of...

Celtics Injury News: Paul Pierce, Brandon Bass

The Boston Celtics have a new look to them.  Sure, there are some familiar faces, but this is not the team with the original big three - the big three that started the trend of players joining up in hopes of winning a championship.  This is a team minus Ray Allen, a key part of the championship the Celtics did win in 2008.  Here's an update on some key players on the current...

Pierce serves Nets reality check

That beautiful new Brooklyn arena and those slick black uniforms are getting the Nets plenty of attention. The Boston Celtics sure noticed, and they delivered a reminder Thursday night that the road to the Atlantic Division title doesn't run through Atlantic Avenue just yet. Paul Pierce scored 18 points despite briefly leaving with an ankle injury, and the Celtics spoiled the...

Celtics 115, Nets 85

Paul Pierce scored 18 points despite briefly leaving with an ankle injury, and the Boston Celtics spoiled the Brooklyn Nets' return to national TV with a 115-85 exhibition victory Thursday night. Courtney Lee also had 18 for the Celtics in a rematch of the Nets' 97-96 victory in Boston two nights earlier. The Nets rallied to pull that one out even while resting their starters...

Courtney Lee Could Be Rajon Rondo's Dream Come True and Other Impressions From Celtics' Win Over Nets

Courtney Lee has all the tools. He can shoot, jump, run, dribble and defend. With all those skills, the biggest question is why the 27-year-old Western Kentucky product is on his fourth team in five NBA seasons. A quick rundown of the point guards Lee has played with in his career may help explain why. Jameer Nelson, Devin Harris, Kyle Lowry and Goran Dragic...

Comments From the Other Side - Sixers 10/15

Well, that was unpleasant to watch. Hopefully the Celtics got that all out of their system and hopefully Doc can start defining roles a bit more so that they can get into a groove before the start of the season. Sixers fans aren't all that bad a bunch. They don't seem to have the vitriol that say Knicks fans or Heat fans or Lakers fans have. My favorite comment was the...

Comments From the Other Side - Nets 10/18

Nets fans sound a bit different than they did after their team blew out the Celtics.  Lots of hate for Deron Williams.  When fans are longing to have Gerald Green back, you know there are problems.  Of course there are the wheelchair comments after Pierce came up limping after he was shoved into the photographers by Joe Johnson.  Funny, he didn't seem to have that mean streak...

Celtics Sneaker Review: Brooklyn Nets

The Celtics hit the Garden parquet for the first time this preseason. Jeff Green brought out some heat, as he wore the Nike Hyperposite in a Atomic Green/Charcoal colorway. The Nike Hyperposite is a $225 high end basketball shoe released by Nike earlier this summer. Check out The Shoe Games post about the shoes. Rajon Rondo debuted a pair of white/gorge green/volt Nike 2012 Hyperfuse...

Doc still "Disappointed" by Ray Allen's departure

From today's Boston Herald: “I’ll always be disappointed with that because of the way it went down. But it is what it is, so I’m over it, but, you know, you’re always disappointed about stuff." Coach Rivers goes on to say: "But as far as our team, I moved on the next day. We were trying to build our team. We already had Jason Terry; we knew that. So my next...
