Thumbs up, indeed!

Remember the 2003 draft class? The top five was one of the best in the history of basketball. The sole reason why it might not be is the man holding his thumb up in the air like he just dug out a huge booger and wants to show everybody.

That being said, I actually think this is a solid pick-up. Darko may not be able to “score” or “push people around,” but I’ll tell what he can do – block shots. And that is something the Celtics were greatly missing last year.

Should you expect anything substantial out of the former No. 2 overall pick? No, but there’s no reason to think he can’t give quality minutes off the bench. More importantly it gives another 7-footer for Fab Melo to work against, and with, in practice. The good thing about Darko is that he won’t hurt the Melo’s confidence on the defensive end by slamming on his face like Courtney Lee.  Darko’s defensive skill set will help Melo develop in practice. The young big man won’t be able to get lazy with another guy his own size – who isn’t guaranteed a spot on the roster – going at him.

Another solid pick-up in an off season that saw the Celtics lose one of their key players, but still get better as an overall unit.
