The Houston Rockets’ Chase Budinger will make his All-Star debut as a participant in the 2012 Dunk Contest, the NBA announced Thursday.
He is joined by the New York Knicks’ Iman Shumpert, Minnesota’s Derrick Williams, and Indiana’s Paul George.
Budinger’s inclusion is a bit of a shocker. Not because “Air Bud” can’t jump; the former Arizona Wildcat has a reported 40-inch vertical leap and finished runner-up in the 2006 McDonald’s All-American Dunk Contest.
He was even voted the best high school volleyball player in the nation as a senior.
But Budinger isn’t known for his creative, highlight-reel certified slams. Despite the occasional alley-oop or fastbreak opportunity, he spends the majority of his time drifting around the perimeter, where he shoots over 40 percent from beyond the arc.
Apparently, the selection committee chose perceived reputation over actual in-game results. High-flying teammates Terrence Williams...

Throwback: Jeremy Lin and Yao Ming
I'll be retired by the time you here the name Lin T..
Here’s a great pic of a young Jeremy Lin meeting Yao Ming. Yao Ming eloquently reflects on Jeremy Lin
In an NBA.com profile this week, Yao Ming waxed poetic about the NBA’s newest golden child, Jeremy Lin. It is quite possibly the most magical quote you will read this week.
“What I see from Jeremy and what I hear in his interviews is he appreciates everything. He pursues his dream. His attitude is so peaceful, but there is strength to him. It is not a violent strength...
Video: Chandler Parsons Dunks, And Nobody Watches
The Houston Rockets fell 93-83 to the Memphis Grizzlies Tuesday night, but rookie slasher Chandler Parsons continues to conjure positive sparks with his consistent trips above the rim.
This particular alley-oop, the product of a Kyle Lowry steal, slightly eased the pain of mediocrity for Rockets fans as Houston slid to a ho-hum 3-3 on its recent six-game road trip.
Perhaps the biggest...
Rockets on wrong end of Wolves' Love, again
HOUSTON His career had been the picture of impeccable ascent up until the moment Timberwolves forward Kevin Love surrendered to his inner rage and stomped the face of Rockets forward Luis Scola on Feb. 4.
His pittance had been paid via a league-issued two-game suspension, but Love realized that only he could close the book on this chapter of his basketball narrative. The stage...

Here’s what Yao Ming has to say about Jeremy Lin
It looks like Yao Ming has been following “Linsanity” just as closely as the rest of us.
In a recent interview, here’s what the former NBA All-Star had to say about Jeremy Lin:
Jeremy is smart. You can see the way he plays. He has high basketball IQ, but he also has more. He has an IQ about how to get along with people. He communicates.

Kevin Love expects to be greated with Boos tonight- no surprise. I am sure the Rockets hope to Stomp on the Wolves.
Rockets had a nice win against OKC the other night, and Kevin Martin re-emerged from his scoring slumber.
FWIW- McHale said if Love had stepped on him he would not have needed to apologize to him after the game.

Put Elliot Williams In The Dunk Contest
LaMarcus Aldridge will represent Portland in the 2012 NBA All-Star Game. He’ll be the only Blazer joining the festivities.
That’s a shame.
