Fast forward to next year and nights like Monday, hopefully, will be unacceptable. As for right now, a loss to a hobbled and reeling Minnesota Timberwolves is one that can be taken, reluctantly, with a grain of salt. Chalk it up to the growing pains of a young and inexperienced basketball team. It's hard to tell if that eases the pain or enhances it--that the Cavs have seemingly turned a corner in 2013 and have mixed in some pretty exciting nights amongst some puzzling efforts--much like last nightʼs loss to Minnesota. Over the last 24 games, the Cavs have put together a respectable, while not earth shattering, 11-13 record. The best thing along the way is that itʼs been the young core doing a lot of the heavy lifting. Kyrie Irving has been incredible. Frankly, its to a point where he has to play pretty unbelievably for the Cavs to win games and that he has. For those concerned about a sophomore slump you can breathe easy. All Irving has done is exceed ex...

Rubio, Wlliams offer Wolves some hope

MINNEAPOLIS A trick of the schedule, and they're all thinking back to last season. Last season, just as this one, the final game before the All-Star break ended with the Jazz. It ended with a close game, a floater from Luke Ridnour to win the thing, 100-98, and to push the Timberwolves to .500. Consider that moment, for a second, rather than the spring collapse that obscured...

Wolves Wednesday: Rubio can dish it

MINNEAPOLIS Ricky Rubio said at Wednesday's Timberwolves shootaround that he no longer feels pain in his left knee and that his fear of driving to the basket has all but disappeared. This after the point guard has strung together a nine-game stretch during which he's averaged 12.6 points on 44.3 percent shooting and 8.4 assists. Rubio's play has been the bright spot...

Wolves Tuesday: Rubio making progress

MINNEAPOLIS Coming off their 100-92 win in Cleveland Monday night, the Timberwolves did not practice Tuesday, getting the customary day off after a back-to-back. But to tide you over until Wednesday's home game against the Jazz, here's a list of five things that have become increasingly apparent about this team over the past week or two: 1. Ricky Rubio will continue to improve...

Cleveland Cavaliers: Advanced Stats Show that the Cavaliers are Nothing Without Kyrie Irving

There is no doubting the fact that Kyrie Irving is one of the rising superstars in this league and that he should become one of the greatest players of this generation. At 19, he has already won the Rookie of the Year award and is already an All-Star. He is the highest scoring point guard in the NBA and sixth overall and has it been mentioned that he is only 19? He has not yet reached...

Forward Lou Amundson Drawing Interest From Knicks, Lakers & Sixers

The Minnesota Timberwolves waived power forward Lou Amundson Friday, and the 6-year veteran has reportedly drawn interest  from several teams around the league. According to Ken Berger, CBS Sports: Among teams that have internally discussed Amundson are the Lakers, Knicks and Sixers, source says. Lakers and Sixers have roster spot, but have shown no inclination to use it. Knicks...

Cavaliers limp into All-Star break where Kyrie Irving won’t have much of one

Metaphors are a funny thing. In the National Basketball Association, seven seconds can turn a prince in to a pauper. It was the “seven seconds or less” offense that ultimately earned Mike D’Antoni two large market jobs. Reggie Miller used the large part of seven seconds when he drained two consecutive three-pointers against the New York Knicks in 1995. And it was the same seven...

Scott, Irving to have three-point contest

Cavaliers coach Byron Scott has challenged the team's point guard, Kyrie Irving, to a three-point shooting contest in a competition that will take place on Tuesday.

Talking Cavs with Glenn and dealing with Dion's defense

Yesterday afternoon I caught up with our old friend and former co-host of the Wine and Gold Podcast Glenn Moore from Cleveland.com. Mr. Moore and I discussed the chances of Kyrie Irving winning the 3-point shoot-out, the article  I wrote comparing Irving to Mark Price last week and the trade possibilities surrounding Big Mo Speights. The link to that episode of Cleveland...

Box Score: Spurs 96 Cavaliers 95

Talk about a strange game. The Cleveland Cavaliers played the San Antonio Spurs about as tough as you could possibly hope, and they did it on a night in which Kyrie Irving arguably played the worst game of his career since his debut game against the Raptors last season. The Cavaliers came out strong and rose a combination of impressive bench play (especially on defense) and an unexpected...

Matchup of the Game: Spurs vs. Cavs

The matchup for tonight's game when the San Antonio Spurs visit the Cleveland Cavaliers before the All-Star break will be between Tony Parker and Kyrie Irving. The last time these two players faced off against each other was last season during a lockout shortened season. The Spurs took care of the Cavaliers easily in a 125-90 victory. The game saw Parker only play 23 minutes...

Cavaliers making progress before home crowd

The Minnesota Timberwolves got the best of the Cleveland Cavaliers in the last meeting, though each team had a much different look. Minnesota looks to avoid a ninth consecutive road loss as Cleveland continues its seven-game homestand Monday night. Kevin Love scored a season-high 36 points and grabbed 13 rebounds Dec. 7 in the Timberwolves' 91-73 home win over the Cavaliers,...
