Darren Collison entered the 2012-13 season as the Dallas Mavericks starting point guard. During the final 23 games of the campaign, the 25-year-old came off the bench. Playing in the final year of his contract, some might think losing a starting spot means Collison and his agent have discussed a departure from Dallas. "To be honest, we haven't had too many discussions about anything, as of yet," Collison said during Thursday's end-of-season interviews at American Airlines Center. "I'm sure we are in the next few days or so, but as of right now, we haven't." Collison said he's "capable of playing for any team as a starter" but didn't rule out returning to the Mavericks and coming off the bench. The former first-round pick, who was traded to Dallas in July, averaged 12.0 points, 5.1 assists, 1.2 steals and 2.1 turnovers in 81 games this season. "I learned a lot about myself," Collison said. "I learned that I can pretty much take on any challenge. It was extremely tough. But the biggest thing I did was just put the team in front of me. It wasn't about me at the end of the day. It was coach's decision to play me coming off the bench. That was his decision and I learned to deal with it." So, what does Collison think of the way Rick Carlisle coached the Mavericks in his fifth season with the club? "I thought he did a good job with this ballclub, despite all of us being on the last year of our deals," Collison said. "Regardless of what he did to me, or what everybody may feel like he did to me, I still have respect for him and the rest of this organization." Follow Jon Machota on Twitter: @jonmachota
