Fox Sports Southwest:
DALLAS - I might characterize Mark Cuban's post-Dwight position as 'stubborn optimism.' Cuban himself would like his comments to be properly framed, presented in context and understood that to him, the failure to successfully court Howard is not necessarily damning to the Mavs. Here, I provides the owner with room for framing and context:
"What I said was that we obviously preferred Dwight,"Dallas Mavericksowner Mark Cuban tells DallasBasketball.com and FOXSports in an exclusive interview, referring to a much-ballyhooed remark about the club's good standing despite not securing free agent Dwight Howard. "That is why we went after him. But that was a two-year plan because all we could add around him was going to be minimum(-wage) players."
This is an accurate portrayal of Cuban'spre-July 1 thoughts, when he did indeed detail Dallas' so-called "two-year plan," as detailed here.
In the owner's view, a max deal for Howard st...
BEST OF MAXIM
Mavs owner and sharktank chum churner Mark Cuban is in full spin mode today, trying to convince everyone that his team is better off without Dwight Howard. And while I agree with him – because my coed kickball team is better off without Dwight – the only person he should really be trying to convince is himself. Via ESPNDallas:
“I think we’ve put ourselves in a spot where...
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has taken plenty of cues from his crosstown mentor Jerry Jones when it comes to the art of spinning negative situations.
Cuban openly coveted Houston Rockets center Dwight Howard this off-season much like he coveted point guard Deron Williams last off-season.
He lost both free agency battles and in the aftermath of each failure he has seen the...
I don’t understand why you originally tried to sign Dwight during free agency if this is the case, but I digress. Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has struck out swinging the last couple of years during free agency. While he has signed some nice pieces in free agency in the form of Monta Ellis, he [...]
ON THE MARK
Even though he says he was disappointed, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban says his team is "in a better spot" by losing out in the Dwight Howard sweepstakes.
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban sure does flip-flop his stance on certain positions.
Cuban constantly gets in on the sweepstakes for the high-profile free agent of the summer, only to lose out on that player, and then claim he didn’t need him.
Cuban made reference to that point last summer, when he deemed the Mavericks inability to sign Deron Williams as a good thing.
Mark Cuban believes the Dallas Mavericks are in a more advantageous position without Dwight Howard.
"I think we've put ourselves in a spot where we're in a better spot than we were at if we got just the one max-out deal," Cuban said. "I think it'd be better shorter and longer term. I don't want to make that sound the wrong way. I think we'll be...
LAS VEGAS -- Mark Cuban isn't sweating whiffing on Dwight Howard. Not even in the desert.
The NBA's most involved and quoted owner has always been the eternal optimist when it comes to the personnel dealings of the Dallas Mavericks. What else would you expect? So Cuban and his front office went to work when the Mavs finished tied for last in the Howard Sweepstakes.
Dwight Howard took his talents to Houston. Mark Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks also made a push for Howard, but did not get him in the end of things.
Recently Cuban told ESPN Dallas that the Mavs are in a better spot without Howard.
“I think we’ve put ourselves in a spot where we’re in a better spot than we were at if we got just the one max-out deal,” Cuban told ESPNDallas...
The Dallas Mavericks will be better off in the immediate future because they missed out on Dwight Howard, allowing them to sign several other free agents, owner Mark Cuban said.
"I think we've put ourselves in a spot where we're in a better spot than we were at if we got just the one max-out deal," Cuban told ESPNDallas.com during the Mavs' summer league game...
The Dallas Mavericks were one of the teams who were believed to be in the final running earlier this month as Dwight Howard weighed his options for the future. Once it became obvious Howard wasn’t going to return to Los Angeles, the Houston Rockets had to beat out the Mavs and the Golden State Warriors [...]
The struggling Dallas Mavericks are better off after missing out on Dwight Howard, according to owner Mark Cuban.
"I think we've put ourselves in a spot where we're in a better spot than we were at if we got just the one max-out deal," Cuban told ESPNDallas.com on Wednesday. "I think it'd be better shorter and longer term. I don't want to make that...
