The Dallas Mavericks waived guard Delonte West, who was suspended twice this month, to cut their roster down to the 15-player limit Monday.
The Mavericks released West to make a roster spot for center Eddy Curry.
Curry will likely start the season-opener against the Los Angleles Lakers because Chris Kaman and Brandon Wright are out with injuries.
The Mavericks felt West was negatively influencing the younger players on the team as he couldn't handle having to settle for another one-year, veteran minimum contract, according to the Associated Press.
The eighth-year pro was involved in two locker room incidents during the preseason.
