David Fizdale Yet To Accept Suns’ Front-Office Offer
Rob Gray-USA TODAY Sports

Former NBA coach and Phoenix Suns assistant David Fizdale has yet to accept the offer of a front office position after being let go as an assistant with the team, per NBA reporter Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic.

Fizdale was part of the staff under former coach Frank Vogel, who was fired after just one season and a first-round playoff exit. The Suns have since hired former Milwaukee Bucks and Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer.

No one on Vogel’s coaching staff was retained.

Fizdale has served in a front office previously, when he worked as an assistant general manager with the Utah Jazz. That was just before he was talked into a coaching job in Phoenix.

Now, he may be looking for his next gig — whether in coaching or some other capacity, and it may be for a team other than the Suns.

“The 49-year-old Fizdale was an assistant under Vogel with the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2021-22 season when they finished 33-49 and failed to make the playoffs,” Rankin wrote. “He compiled a 54-69 record over the course of three seasons as an NBA head coach with the Memphis Grizzlies (50-51) and New York Knicks (4-18) after having a lengthy run as an assistant with the Miami Heat (2008-16).”

The Suns entered the season with championship hopes but ended up falling flat in the first round of the NBA playoffs, getting swept by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

So whoever is coaching or in the front office will need to figure out a way to get the high-priced trio of Kevin Durant, Bradley Beal and Devin Booker to succeed.

Budenholzer is up next. Fizdale, on the other hand, may not want any part of it.
