So originally, the bigger story here was the fact that the defending “champion” Miami Heat barely  pulled out a win against the Washington Generals…I mean, the San Antonio bench. 105-100….at home. But then enters David Stern. See, Gregg Popovich is a hall of fame coach, one of the greatest ever. And he knows that, and acts accordingly. Generally never answering to anybody and executes a proven system. Well, part of that ideology is rotations and rest. He’s got a veteran team and 4 games in 5 nights is nothing to yawn at, it’s tough. And if the Spurs are even halfway serious about being playoff contenders, preservation is key. So Pop does what he always does, the best thing for his team and rests his big three. Duncan, Ginobili and Parker. Thing is, it’s a nationally televised game and it’s against the Miami Heat, so Stern isn’t happy. And he let’s it be known during  the game. Cause that’s how Stern rolls. Then he releases the statement above and threatens sanctions against the Spurs. Wow. Didn’t know the NBA could tell a franchise how to coach? But the truth is, it was actually more entertaining to watch the “champion” Heat, struggle and squirm (with Wade and LeBron on the floor) AT home….against a bench squad. So it’s going to be hard for Stern to argue entertainment value and the integrity of the game. True basketball fans everywhere had fun watching that  game. Stay tuned for this drama to continue unfolding.
