While French guard Nando De Colo may have become an instant fan favorite after some fancy passing in the preseason, De Colo is still getting his bearings in San Antonio in what has been a whirlwind rookie season so far.
Just to show how easy he's transitioned into the hearts of Spurs fans and bloggers a like, two of us on the Sports Rountable crew had "more Nando" written down as part of our Spurs resolutions for 2013.
De Colo recently spoke to French site lavoixdunord.fr while he was back in San Antonio for a homestand and De Colo opened up his new San Antonio residence up to the publication and talked about his rookie season in the NBA.
One would expect one of the biggest adjustments in transitioning to the NBA would be the grueling 82 game season. Luckily for De Colo, he's coached by one of the best when it comes to managing the minutes of his players and keeping them all fresh.
We played six games last week, already has two this week. Personally, it's okay, but I have not yet 30 - 35 minutes of playing time as some. The thing is, we have often been outside, fatigue accumulates more. But the coach knows how to manage his team and believes the rest.
De Colo also said the franchise also takes care of its players and will sometimes not open the practice facility so the players can focus on more than just basketball.
When asked about earning his place in the Spurs' rotation on a team that features many veteran players, De Colo mentioned the phrase we've heard many before him say as well and one teammate Matt Bonner preaches.
Earn my place, this is a big word. In this team, you can not say that. These are players who have long, there is a hierarchy and it will always be respected. The trick, as I am told, is to be ready at all times.
Asked if he had any regrets in choosing the NBA over signing a lucrative deal with a big Euroleague Team, De Colo didn't hesitate to answer.
No. My first choice was the NBA. Even if I could earn more money in a big European club or get more playing time early on, frankly, I'd ch ... to end my career without trying the NBA. I am and I'm happy. Obviously, with more playing time, it would be even better. But the season is long and my career too.
So while De Colo continues to work his way into Spurs coach Gregg Popovich's rotation and has become a quick fan favorite, there is no removing that "rookie" label in the eyes of his elder Spurs teammates.
Before practices and shootaround, his teammates are more interested in his ability to distribute donuts over his behind-the-back passes that are lighting up Youtube the day after games.

It’s no surprise that DeJuan Blair may be moved prior to the trade deadline on February 21. The San Antonio Spurs have been shopping him for quite some time, and nearly traded him in June. In the days leading up to the 2012 NBA Draft, the Spurs spoke to a number of teams about the 23-year-old big man. They nearly sent Blair to the Miami HEAT, but the deal fell apart.
Now, San Antonio...
Stephen Jackson had 14 points in a San Antonio Spurs win against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night. If you saw the game, that good performance Jackson had was overshadowed by him losing his cool in the 4th quarter with less than four minutes to go.
Jackson was upset that he didn't get a call from the referee against Kobe Bryant which would've given him two free...
Stephen Jackson returned to the San Antonio Spurs’ lineup on Monday against the New Orleans Hornets after missing a game with a sprained ankle.
His injury was one of the more bizarre ones in the NBA. Jackson sprained his ankle when he fell over a waitress who was serving New York mayor Michael Bloomberg on the sideline at Madison Square Garden during the Spurs game against...
To say Andrew Gaze, former San Antonio Spurs guard on their 1999 championship roster, is excited for his countryman Aron Baynes signing with the San Antonio Spurs would be an understatement.
He's not only excited, but he also is giving us a look at what type of player and person Baynes is. In an interview with Smh.com.au, Gaze indirectly tells us how Aron will be a perfect...
Well this is awkward. NBA ref Billy Kennedy called over Mark D’Antoni and Gregg Popovich in the Los Angeles Lakers-San Antonio Spurs game to tell him that TV thought the Lakers called a 20-second timeout when they had really called a full-timeout. This led to Kennedy saying that he was meeting with them to stall for TV, but little did he know they were already back and this...
See what I did there? DeJuan Blair was the perfect pick for the San Antonio Spurs in 2009. Lottery level talent that fell in to the Spurs' lap early in the second round. You can say they should've drafted this guy or that guy, but the only guy available where the Spurs drafted that you could legitimately say the Spurs should've drafted instead was Chase Budinger...
Former number 1 overall pick Greg Oden has been plagued by injuries his NBA career and he's determined to make a comeback from his third microfracture surgery. Many teams are already rumored to be interested in him as his potential is looked on as being one of the best big men of the game, if he can stay healthy. The Miami Heat are looking to pursue him because of their defensive...
SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- Tony Parker scored 24 points and the San Antonio Spurs handed the slumping Los Angeles Lakers their fifth straight loss with a 108-105 victory Wednesday night.
Manu Ginobili added 19 points and Tiago Splitter and Stephen Jackson had 14 each for San Antonio, which has won 11 straight at home.

Known for his versatility, Boris Diaw has characteristics of each position on the court. He can handle and shoot the ball, but what he does against the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night is ridiculous for a big man.
The San Antonio Spurs forward not only steals the ball from Robert Sacre but does a quick behind the back pass while looking to run in transition.
As Project Spurs reported, Aron Baynes is heading to join the San Antonio Spurs. With new information from the DailyTelegraph.com.au, it appears the signing is all but official. His team, Union Olimpija, has wished him good luck in his new endeavors:
Thank you for everything and good luck - @aronbaynes! (@Union Olimpijia)
The site is also reporting about the contract...
Once an elite NBA power, though it’s still not too late, the 15-19 depleted Los Angeles Lakers have flown into San Antonio to visit the (27-10) San Antonio Spurs.
With the Lakers comes a lot of media, only Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich doesn’t really pay too much attention to what’s going on out in Hollywood.
“I don’t think about it,” said Coach Pop when asked...
Eighty-two wins and 37 losses in a calendar year is not bad for some old guys.
But there’s no championship or NBA Finals appearance to show for it, so far.
The strike-shortened season of 2011-12 created an unusual schedule, with games bundled more closely on the sports calendar. The Spurs were 47-15 in the regular season (50-16 overall, counting games before 2012 began) and 10...
NBA fans watching the Los Angeles Lakers-San Antonio Spurs game on Wednesday caught a glimpse of what goes on behind-the-scenes during a typical TV timeout.
With 5:09 left in the game and a break in the action, ESPN ran a promo for the second game of its double-header. The teams lined up for the Spurs to inbound the ball, but the referees stopped to see if they should break for...
