After Monday’s overtime win against the Utah Jazz, Paul Pierce said that his late game duel with DeMarre Carroll dated back to this summer but left it up to the Jazz forward to fill in the details. Carroll explained further to the Salt Lake Tribune’s Steve Luhm at the Jazz’s Tuesday morning practice:“It’s just a summer thing,” Carroll said, explaining he often works out with Kevin Garnett and Pierce in Los Angeles during the offseason.“I’ve been killing him in the summer, and he said I was fouling. Once we get in a real game, he said, ‘I’m going to be able to get what I want.’ ”“He had the refs on his side so, what he said before, it came to life,” said Carroll, who noted his rivalry with Pierce and Garnett is not fueled by animosity.“They really love me and really speak highly of me. They think of me like their little brother. But when we step on the court, I ain’t friends.”I don’t really know much about Carroll, but working out with two future hall-of-famers is a pretty s

We recently learned that Paul Pierce is playing through neck pain, but no one realized how bad it was until today.
“I probably won’t be fully recovered from it until the season is over, if I ever do,” Pierce said. “I probably have a little bit of nerve damage in my back, part of my neck. It’s something that I’ve been playing through over the last several months. I’m...
I occasionally get questions on Twitter about what sneakers players are wearing during games. But no sneaker this season has gotten more “what ARE those?” than the kicks Paul Pierce has busted out the past few games.
Pierce is still wearing his usual Nike Legacy 3′s… but he’s wearing a special “Black History Month” colorway that features a distinctive pattern and...
Washed up. Over the hill. On the decline.
Those are just a few of the adjectives used to describe Boston Celtics’ captain Paul Pierce these days.
But while the 14-year veteran might just laugh them off as nonsensical banter, his stat line suggests otherwise.
Through 57 games for the Celtics, Pierce is averaging 18.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists in over 33.9 minutes per...
The aging Boston Celtics aren't even pretending to be young anymore. Paul Pierce is playing with a pain in his neck, literally. At 35 years old, the aches and pains of the game have to catch up. In Pierce's case, they are catching up in the form of a pinched nerve.According to Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald, Pierce suffered a pinched nerve in his neck and understands...
From WEEI Celtics blogger Ben Rohrbach:
Pierce: Pinched nerve "probably been the reason I’ve been up-and-down a lot." VIDEO: greenstreet.weei.com/sports/boston/…

Paul Pierce is one tough SOB, the fact that he’s playing through a pinched nerve is unreal to me. I kind of wish this information would have come out after...
Celtics 110, Jazz 107 (OT)
Five games in seven nights. A marathon of basketball and travel that would even leave young players exhausted. The Celtics (30-27) key players, however, are not young, and were certainly not happy when the final game of their west coast road trip went into overtime on Monday night. But these are professionals, and even though he was too exhausted to celebrate...
Highlights from the Boston Celtics' 110-107 overtime victory over the Utah Jazz above, box score below. Paul Pierce was the leading scorer for the Celtics with 26 points.
Boston Celtics 110, Utah Jazz 107 - FINAL - Overtime - February 25, 2013
Boston Celtics (30-27)
Before I went to check the Jazz forums, I predicted that the bulk of the talk would be on three things: Horrible officiating at times and the fact that Celtics fans' cheers were quite audible, garnished with some OT hate on Paul Pierce. What I've seen though was a fan base that hated their coach and mocked their players for pages in a way that's quite funny. Almost zero...
The Boston Celtics have retired more jersey numbers than any other professional sports team in the USA with a count of 21. And according to co-owner Wyc Grousbeck, it looks like both #34 and #5 will be added to the rafters when Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett retire in the near future.
In an interview with WEEI.com, Grousbeck said this about Pierce:
“We’re going to retire...

Wyc Grousbeck, managing partner and co-owner of the Celtics, confirmed Tuesday that Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, future Hall of Famers who helped bring a 17th NBA...
The young guns, specifically Avery Bradley, kept the C’s in this one, and the vets finished it off. Despite weary legs and some lapses in defense, Boston gets a gutsy 110-107 win in OT in Utah. Paul Pierce took the game over late, hitting clutch shot after clutch shot in the 4th and the OT. Pierce was 3 of 3 in overtime, and 5 of 9 for 55% in the 4th & OT. His partner in...
Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck joined Mut and Merloni on WEEI 93.7 FM for an hour long interview this Tuesday. When asked about the legacy of Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett, and whether they would have their numbers retired in the rafters with the other legends, Grousbeck said that he didn’t really want to think about that while these guys were still playing. However, later he said...

“These are guys that I can’t imagine giving those numbers out to anybody else,” Grousbeck said on WEEI. Grousbeck called Pierce the “linchpin” of the Celtics’ success during his tenure, which predates...
Tomorrow, the 30-27 Celtics will finally head home to host the Golden State Warriors. The Celtics are coming off of a pretty disappointing road-trip, in which they went just 2-3. They were able to make up for a 1-3 start partially with a terrific OT victory over the Jazz Monday night. Let's hope that they can carry that momentum into the Garden. Here are their five keys to victory...
