Larry Brown Sports:
Deron Williams said on Monday that Mark Cuban missing their free agent meeting helped him choose the Nets over the Mavericks.
Williams was the top point guard on the market and considered the top free agent available. He was said to be considering signing with the Mavericks or remaining with the Nets. He ultimately chose to stay with the Nets, and he says now that Cuban missing their meeting and sending Mavericks representatives instead affected his choice.
Cuban was filming a TV show at the time and couldn’t make the meeting.
“Obviously, I had a conflict, but I was texting him. I was texting him. We were going back and forth quite a bit,” he said at the time.
Could Cuban have made a difference had he attended the meeting?
“Maybe,” he responded. “You know, because I always think I can close the sale.”
Cuban has indicated since then that he’s happy with the team despite failing to sign Williams and trade for Dwight Howard, so maybe things worked out well for all parties.
BEST OF MAXIM
Here’s the story, apparently when Derron Williams went to Dallas to meet with Mark Cuban and the rest of the organization, Cuban was a no show!Yup. Mark Cuban was instead at a taping of his tv series, Shark Tank. When asked if that had any weight on his decision to stay in Brooklyn, Williams had this to say:“Of course. A lot of the questions that me and my agent had for them really...

Jay-Z might have christened the Barclays Center with eight sold out concerts over the past two weeks but, on Sunday, it was the arena's main tenants the Brooklyn Nets who got a chance to break in their new home.
It must have seemed appropriate to the Nets players that Beyonce helped her husband close his final show Saturday night because their new venue is definitely an upgrade...

So I’m a huge Dallas Mavericks fan and an even bigger Dirk Nowitzki fan, but this game was one of the sloppiest games I have seen them play in years. However in saying that, you have to take into consideration that just in the starting lineup alone in the game, was only 2 players from the previous season, Dirk and Shawn Marion and they had just made a very long trip across the...
Deron Williams grew impatient waiting for the Nets to acquire Dwight Howard.
Flopping is a part of sports. It’s certainly a part of basketball. Nevertheless, commissioner David Stern is wanting to take it out of the game. Sure, it isn’t the greatest thing to watch, but why not try to implement the most basic rule of traveling? Why don’t we start by making that simple rule count towards [...]

The Dallas Mavericks kicked off their ’12-’13 preseason abroad. The team had it’s first game in Berlin, Germany – lots of shout outs to Dirk Nowitzki. Of course a perk of these international jaunts – outside of the obvious continued expansion of the NBA as a global brand – is the time the team spends [...]
