Brett Brown has been unabashedly honest in saying that the development of Michael Carter-Williams is one of his highest priorities this season. The first-year 76ers coach also said he'll be getting help in that realm leaning upon second-year guard Tony Wroten to bring along the rookie point guard out of Syracuse. “It's a big-boy stage and there's a physicality Tony can bring to the table so when we start scrimmaging and there's either a casual approach or an aloofness or a cruisey type of style Tony tightens it up and makes it real — real quick” Brown said. “It's a good thing. Those two will help each other.” Carter-Williams the 11th overall pick in the June draft doesn't seem threatened by Wroten stealing his playing time or starting spot probably because Wroten has more value to the Sixers as an option off the bench. The reserve duty for Wroten also ensures that he is able to match up with Carter-Williams daily in practice. Carter-Williams' main focus has been trying to keep pace with Brown's lesson plans. “There's a lot thrown at me and Coach is testing me. Sometimes I get a little overwhelmed but I just have to sit back and take everything in” Carter-Williams said. “The physical play is pretty demanding and hard on your body but you have to take care of it. I have to keep doing things doing extra and besides that yeah there has been a lot thrown at me. I'm just trying to take it one step at a time.” ••• Spencer Hawes who tweaked his left knee Monday during a defensive-slides drill was a non-participant in contact drills for a second straight practice but the forward said he doesn't anticipate having any restrictions moving forward. “That's the goal” said Hawes who added he expects to play in the team's two upcoming European exhibitions.
