Found October 31, 2012 on Project Spurs:
The San Antonio Spurs kick off their 2012-13 regular season tonight versus the New Orleans Hornets in New Orleans. The team remained pretty much in tact only adding guard Nando De Colo in the offseason. Yet despite the lack of many offseason moves, the team got in a full training camp (which will help players added late last season) and are raring to go according to Boris Diaw. Diaw (via French site Sudouest.fr) says the team is ready but the nasty taste of losing in the Western Conference Finals still lingers. It feels good, everyone is ready in San Antonio. There are still some resentment from the playoffs last year because we were not far from the title (note: eliminated in Conference Finals by Western Oklahoma). But the Spurs plays for the title every year and with the team experience, again, it has the potential to go as far as possible. If the team is going to go far, they will have to do it without much size. Diaw, who at times will play the center spot, will carry the bulk of manning the paint along side Tim Duncan but he knows his role on the team. This is a different team from Phoenix where I was a focal point. In San Antonio, Tony (Parker), Tim (Duncan) and Manu (Ginobili) have their roles there. Indeed the Spurs will go as far as the "Big 3" take them. Health will be key and so far, it hasn't gotten off to a good start. Manu will sit out of the season opener against the Hornets. In fact, he didn't travel with the team. Hopefully, this will just be a blip on the radar and Ginobili will be back on the court soon. Diaw also spoke highly of De Colo and says the Bulls, Celtics and Nets could challenge the Heat in the East.

Tim Duncan offended Stephen Jackson wouldn’t let him rap on his new album

Stephen Jackson takes his music as seriously as his NBA career. In fact, if the highly-entertaining interview he gave recently is any indication he probably cares about rapping more than playing basketball. That’s why he had no problem flat-out denying Tim Duncan when Duncan asked if he could rap on his new album. “I asked him if I could rap a little on his album, and he told...

Spurs Season Preview: Stop! Tiago Time!

The lack of size in the San Antonio Spurs' front court isn't a secret.  Boris Diaw and DeJuan Blair are both undersized.  Matt Bonner is a surprisingly good post defender (in addition to his obvious shooting prowess).  Then there's Tiago Splitter.  Tiago's really good, you guys.  He can score in the low post, he's a great roll man, he can pass.  He can rebound...

Video: The Manu Ginobili Documentary

San Antonio Spurs' Manu Ginobili is the focus of a new Spanish-language documentary called "El Grito Sagrado" ("The Sacred Cry"). In it, the film covers Manu's early steps to becoming one of the most decorated international players ever to make it to the NBA. From his brother, Leandro, who speaks about how Manu would literally eat dinner and run back...

Ginobili sitting for Spurs, Gordon out for Hornets

San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili is sitting out the season opener against New Orleans because of back spasms. Ginobili missed half of the team's eight preseason games because of back problems, a troubling sign for the aging Spurs. Coach Gregg Popovich says it's vital that they keep the 30-somethings - Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Ginobili - healthy this season. The...

POTD 10/31/12: Tim Duncan on Roger Mason Jr.

It’s not often that I have to check a roster to figure out exactly who was involved in a Poster of the Day.  It’s not often that I have to check a roster for any reason, really.  That being said, I must admit… I had no idea who Hornet #8 was when I first watched the following video. Ah yes, Roger Mason!  Remember that season he spent with the Spurs, the one where he hit...

Duncan, Parker impressed by Davis as Spurs hold on to beat Hornets

NEW ORLEANS – If Tim Duncan is the gold standard by which all other NBA power forwards are measured, the San Antonio Spurs' future Hall of Famer gushed over what he saw across the court Wednesday night in New Orleans Hornets' rookie Anthony Davis, the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft. Duncan scored 24 points, including nine of San Antonio's final 12 points, and grabbed...

5 things to watch: Spurs vs. Thunder

The San Antonio Spurs (1-0) will face the Oklahoma City Thunder (0-0) tonight in San Antonio for the Spurs home-opener. The Spurs are coming off a narrow 99-95 win over New Orleans last night thanks to huge efforts from Tim Duncan and Tony Parker. But tonight's game will be a rematch of last season's Western Conference Finals where the Thunder rattled off four games in...

Spurs outlast Hornets in Halloween night opener

Wednesday night in New Orleans wasn’t exactly scripted as planned. The San Antonio Spurs, who finished with the best record in the Western Conference last season and had their entire team back, struggled against the number one overall pick Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Hornets Wednesday, however by the end of the night, the ending result was similar to the original script...

Through the looking glass: Spurs bloggers, media predict the 2012-13 season

With the San Antonio Spurs tipping off the 2012-13 season in just a few hours in New Orleans, I thought I’d poll our staff, fellow bloggers and Spurs media members to get their predictions on how this season will end up. My take The Spurs may be another year older, but this is the same team that made it to the Western Conference Finals last season. With Stephen Jackson...

Spurs vs. Hornets preview

The San Antonio Spurs travel to New Orleans tonight to kick off their season against the Hornets. The San Antonio roster looks almost identical to the team that won 50 games last year. For the Hornets, it’s another story. Nine players will be making their debut for New Orleans tonight, including top overall draft pick Anthony Davis. Davis and fellow rookie Austin Rivers are...
