While longtime Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki may be getting up there in years, video was released by the team on Tuesday that shows a bobblehead facsimile of the German veteran getting up there…into the Earth’s atmosphere, even.
Sure, like Nowitzki, the Mavericks roster is not what it used to be during Dirk’s heyday, and the team is plodding along thus far this season, currently sitting with a 16-23 record, but that does not mean Mark Cuban and company aren’t still willing to have some fun along the way.
Long known for releasing strange and entertaining online content (Rick Carlisle-Rolled, anyone?), the Mavericks literally reached for the stars in its latest endeavor: Attempting to launch a Dirk Nowitzki bobblehead into space. And there’s video to document its flight.
After being attached to what appears to be a weather balloon or something of that ilk with three¬†GoPro2 cameras along for the ride, the launch rocketed Bobblehead Dirk an astounding 94,630 feet into the air ‚ÄĒ that‚Äôs nearly 18 miles to you and me, Rus. The flight lasted approximately 100 minutes and the bobblehead traveled an estimated 35 miles, beginning with its launch and ending with its landing.
Soon, fans will be given the opportunity to bid on the ‚ÄúDirk Nowitzki: Bobbleheaded Explorer of Regions Beyond the Stratosphere‚ÄĚ on Mavs.com and the winner will be presented with the interesting piece of memorabilia by Dirk himself at center court at a Mavericks home game.
But for now, simply enjoy the wonder and splendor that is ‚ÄúDirk‚Ķin‚ĶSpaaaaaace!‚ÄĚ(that‚Äôs a reference to The Muppet Show for you youngsters out there).
The power of Flula Borg compels you.
