It’s a little late, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t show this light-hearted moment between Mavs forward Dirk Nowitzki and a Sacramento Kings security guard from this past Thursday’s Kings-Mavericks game (won by the Mavs 117-112 in OT). As Los That Sports Blog explains, Disco Dirk was trying to get a closer look at an official’s video review late in the fourth quarter, but a Kings security guard—who looked a whole lot like a shorter version of Jerry Sloan—was having none of it.
Nowitzki kept trying to creep closer to the scorer’s table, but the security guard’s defense was airtight. Dirk finally realizes he’s defeated, gives the security guard a playful punch to the gut, and backs away as the referees finish their review.
The announcers chime in simultaneously with the obligatory, “That’s the best defense Sacramento has played!” and as cliche as their proclamation was, it’s kind of hard not to agree with them. Despite the height disadvantage, the Sacramento security guard shut down his man, denying him access to the scorer’s table. DeMarcus Cousins should have asked for some pointers.
