No, Dallas Mavericks star Dirk Nowitzki is not an alcoholic, but he does sometimes have a little trouble drinking from water bottles, as was evident Tuesday night.

Video: Dirk Nowitzki has a drinking problem from The Basketball Jones on Vimeo.
Nowitzki sat out Tuesday night's 93-87 win over the Phoenix Suns with a sore knee. Dirk was wearing a suit and was looking rather sharp...until this happened. It's unclear at this point if Dirk's drinking problem and his sore knee are connected. Until then, Dirk needs to pay more attention with his liquids.

Nowitzki shouldn't feel bad, as he's not the only professional athlete who has had problems with water bottles. This happens to NHL players, too.

Dirk makes memorable call on the mic

Dirk Nowitzki threw on the headset and grabbed a microphone to call a few plays Wednesday night. Heck, the Mavericks superstar is sitting out a few games to improve his conditioning so why not do a little play-by-play for a few minutes in the first half. Fortunately for those watching at home, while Nowitzki was on the mic, one of the best alley-opps of the season took place. Jason...

Dirk feeling good, hopes to return Sunday

DALLAS (AP) -- Dirk Nowitzki says he's had a good week of work and is shooting to return to the Dallas Mavericks' lineup Sunday. Nowitzki spoke to reporters after practice Thursday, one day before the star forward will miss his fourth straight game as part of a planned hiatus to strengthen his sore right knee. Coach Rick Carlisle said last weekend that last season's...

Somebody Let Dirk Nowitzki Have The Microphone Again, And The Results Were Äußerst Komisch

Dirk Nowitzki's occasional stints as a TV analyst have led to catchphrases including "Take Dat With You," which became an unofficial rallying cry for last year's Mavericks. Dirk's grunts and ************ are funny, for sure—even if sometimes in a "does my breath smell funny" or "does my car sound funny" way. More »

Suns survive trip but remain stuck in limbo

For at least half of Monday night's game in Dallas, it looked like the Suns could finish a daunting five-city road trip with more wins than losses. With Dirk Nowitzki in street clothes due to a knee injury, it seemed a perfect opportunity to topple the defending champion Mavericks. After trailing by as many as 15 points in the second half, the Suns climbed back to within striking...

Dirk Nowitzki Disputes Claims That He Began the Season Out of Shape

Prompted by his coach and management, Dirk Nowitzki took a break from playing in NBA games to get his body right, which led some in the local media to publish some outlandish claims about his conditioning and overall dedication (or lack thereof.) Nowitkzi was given a chance to respond. From the Star-Telegram: “Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki says he is much better after...

Kidd, Nowitzki, West out for Mavs

Dallas Mavericks starting point guard Jason Kidd left Friday night's game against the Utah Jazz in the first quarter with a strained right calf and did not return. Kidd, who missed four games earlier in the season with a back injury, left the court less than three minutes after the opening tip and headed for the locker room. He was soon ruled out the rest of the game. The Mavericks...

Short-handed Mavericks take down Suns

Short-handed Mavericks, playing without Dirk Nowitzki, defeat Suns, extending home win streak.

Game Day: Utah Jazz at Dallas Mavericks (1/27/12)

The Dallas Mavericks seem happy they don't have to worry about any more ceremonies honoring their first NBA championship. Dallas (11-8) raised its championship banner before...

Dallas Mavericks Receive Their Championship Rings

The Dallas Mavericks were finally presented with their championship rings Wednesday night. The ring contains 250 diamonds and is 10 karats. Jason Kidd, Dirk Nowitzki, and Jason Terry all had input on the design of the ring. The top of the ring, which is made of 14-karat white gold, the edges read “World Champions,” with [...]

Kiszla: Nuggets' Gallo is nothing to whine about

OK, let's dispense with the nonsense about Nuggets forward Danilo Gallinari. Please stop with the comparisons to Dirk Nowitzki before somebody strains all credibility or a back muscle.
