Former Kentucky shooting guard Doron Lamb was due for a breakout performance in the NBA. Lamb was a key contributor to Kentucky’s 2012 championship run, including leading the ‘Cats in scoring in the title game. The NBA has not been kind to Lamb, and he’s had to earn every step of the way. After being traded from the Bucks to the Magic, Lamb has only averaged 9 minutes a game. At Kentucky, he was on the floor for an average of 31 minutes per game. On Wednesday night, Lamb finally had the game he was wishing for all season long. Along with getting the 113-103 OT win versus the team that drafted him, Lamb scored 16 points and hit 4 of 6 from deep. The 16 points doubles his NBA career-high. After playing what was called “energetic” defense against Chicago’s Nate Robinson, Lamb earned the extra playing time and made the most of it with his breakout performance. Here’s what Lamb said to the media after his game:  “It’s been tough, but I just kept working hard from Day One, and my time will come,” Lamb said afterward. “Hard work pays off.” Lamb’s teammates felt he was due for a big night with the way he was shooting the ball in practice. Here’s his teammate and former Tennessee Vol, Tobias Harris’ comments: “He was shooting lights-out,” “So I told him when he gets in the game he’s got to be ready to lock-and-load and let it go. That’s what he did [Wednesday], and he really contributed for us. I knew that all it would take for him was one game for everybody to see what he could do and how he can shoot. And he made some great plays, not only on the offensive end but on the defensive end. So, I’m very proud of him to have a game like that.” While Lamb’s contract is guaranteed for next season, he will have to fight for a roster spot. If he continues to develop and put in the hard work, he’ll be on a roster next season.
