That 36-year-old San Antonio Spurs forward everyone said would be over the hill by now is looking as spry as ever and having yet another great season. Like wine, apparently Tim Duncan gets better with age as well, and that couldn't be more apparent than with the NBA's announcement that Duncan has been named the Western Conference Player of the Week. It's also fitting that this is Duncan's 21st time earning the award. But Duncan had some stiff competition, including one of his own teammates, Tony Parker, who has been on a roll, stringing together three big games all in wins for the Spurs. But take one look at Duncan's numbers for the week, as well as the quality players he faced, including Blake Griffin, Kevin Garnett and Roy Hibbert, and it's obvious the award went to the right player.   Duncan averaged 22.0 points, a team-high 12.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.25 blocks in 34.5 minutes, as the Spurs went 3-1. Duncan recorded three straight 20-plus point, 10-plus rebound games from Nov. 19-23. The last time Duncan posted three straight games with at least 20-or-more points and 10-or-more rebounds was Nov. 23-27, 2009, which coincides with the last time he won Player of the Week honors.   Duncan currently leads the team with eight double-doubles and ranks tied for fourth in the NBA. He is the NBA leader with 739 career double-doubles among active players. Duncan also recently joined elite company, becoming just the ninth player in NBA history to record 2,500 blocks. He is also now one of only four players to have over 22,500 points, 12,500 rebounds and 2,500 blocked shots.   If Duncan continues along this path, he could also be adding a Player of the Month trophy to his mantle with perhaps even more hardware along the way.

Video: Duncan reaches another milestone, embarrasses Bargnani along the way

It's been fitting for Tim Duncan to be reaching milestones at the end of his career. He's become the San Antonio Spurs all time points leader and broke the NBA's record for all time playoff blocks. So it was fitting for Duncan to reach another milestone: 2,500 career blocks. This block wasn't just an ordinary block though. It was more of a “I hope no one has...

5 things to watch: Spurs vs. Wizards

The San Antonio Spurs (11-3) continue their long road trip with a stop in Washington tonight to face the hapless Wizards (0--11).  The Spurs are coming off a thrilling 111-106 double overtime win over the Raptors led by Tony Parker's 32 points and five assist night. Tim Duncan also chipped in with  26 points in the game. The Wizards remain winless in the 2012-13 season...

NBA Player Matt Bonner Says Decertification Throws Everything Into Chaos

from Kevin McGran of the Toronto Star, “I can relate to what the hockey players are going through,” said Matt Bonner of the San Antonio Spurs. “For them, it’s got to be more frustrating because last time around they missed a whole season. To get locked out twice in a row and to miss two seasons definitely has to be a hard thing to swallow.”... Having gone through...

Neal Confirms It: Popovich Is One Of A Kind

As San Antonio Spurs fans, we know we have a unique coach. Coach Gregg Popovich can be a very light hearted soul during an interview after practice or a loud (sometimes with language not suitable for “family television”) disciplinarian coach when an obvious defensive rotation is missed during a game. We know what we're going to get from him even if we haven't had a conversation...

Catching Up With Gary Neal

Gary Neal chatted with me about the Spurs not stealing a lot of headlines, what veterans on the team he is learning from and what Gregg Popovich has meant to his growth on and off the court.

Parker, Spurs outlast Raptors in 2OT

Tony Parker scored six of his 32 points in the second overtime, Tim Duncan had 26 and the San Antonio Spurs beat Toronto 111-106 on Sunday, their fourth straight victory over the Raptors. Manu Ginobili scored 15 points, Danny Green had 13 and Boris Diaw 11 as the Spurs won their third straight and improved their NBA-best road record to 7-1. Parker made jump shots on consecutive...

Parker, Spurs defeat Raptors in double-overtime

Heading to the east coast three games into a six-game road trip has been an opportunity to excel for San Antonio Spurs point guard Tony Parker. Parker first began the road trip with a 26-point outing in Boston, then followed with a 33-point game in Indiana. On Sunday, it took two overtime periods, but Parker guided the Spurs to a 111-106 victory in Toronto with 32 points, six...

With team effort, Spurs blow out winless Wizards

One would think after the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Toronto Raptors in double-overtime on Sunday they’d be exhausted in an early Monday game in Washington. On Monday, the Spurs brought energy to the United Center in Washington D.C. as they blew out the Wizards on the Wizard’s home floor 118-92. Tired legs, not for the Spurs as they shot 57% in the game and their machine...

spurs 118 wizards 9211/26/2012 - Verizon Center, Washington, DCESPN BoxscoreNBA.com Game Highlights   It’s hard to think of anyone on the Wizards that should be the game MVP after the massacre we all witnessed tonight on the Verizon Center court. However, if Gilbert Arenas put a gun to my head and forced me to pick one guy, I guess it would have to be Martell...

Hasta Luego, El Contusion?

This young 2012-2013 season started off with a familiar note: Manu Ginobili being injured. His first game of the season came against the Utah Jazz on November third after tweaking his back during practice. The guy plays tough, even against his teammates in situations that aren't really competitive. With injuries, come slow starts especially for a guy who needs to continually...
