Dare I say these words… Is Dwight Howard… maturing? Lately it seems like Dwight Howard is beginning to accept his new role as a leader in LA. With Kobe out for 6-9 months, in Kobe years thats like 3-6 months, Howard is getting an early taste of what this LA team has to offer and what is being expected of him. From insidesocal.com, Howard spoke to the press about stepping up to the huge plate of being a Laker leader and learning how to play without the Lakers biggest threat, Kobe Bryant. “It’s a great opportunity for me to lead this team,” Howard said. “I feel confident in myself and the guys are confident in me. I’m willing to do the best I can every single night.Despite whatever happened this season, we have a chance to win the next game, make the playoffs and make history,” Howard said. “Me being tthe leader in the team, I believe we can win. Now we’ll go out and play like it. I watched Kobe all year and watched what he did with this team,” Howard said. “He’s not one of the guys who will be in the locker room and be vocal. He’s just going to do everything on the court. That’s where he shows his leadership with how hard he plays and how hard he trains. Other guys are the vocal guys. Btu I believe I can do both. I’ve been trying to do that the whole year. With Kobe out, I understand I have to do more with this team. It’s a good opportunity for me. I believe I can do it.” It has to make you scratch your head, either Dwight has a great publicity team or he’s actually ready to become what Buss wants and that’s not only a franchise player but also the new leader of the Los Angeles Lakers. Dwight Howard is coming into his own, he’s been playing with a injured back, huge criticism and a weight of expectations, maybe the lost of Kobe was something that was needed to kick him into gear and make him see that this is possibly his team in 2-3 years. Sometimes all it takes is a little reality to bite you in the ass to wake you up. Folks, a giant might be awake in LA.

Dwight Howard Suggests You Call Him The “Chocolate Mamba”

Kobe isn’t around to tell him to keep the clown act in Orlando, so Dwight is back to his happy-go-lucky self. Since, he doesn’t like to use the Superman moniker anymore after Shaq punked him, he is thinking about trying out a new name. Dwight also suggested he could be the “Chocolate Mamba.” And sell a snack bar by that name. — KEVIN DING (@KevinDing) April 16, 2013 I...

Dwight Howard reportedly expected to sign with Lakers

The future of the Los Angeles Lakers became even more uncertain on Friday night when Kobe Bryant suffered a torn Achilles’ tendon. The team already has to deal with Dwight Howard becoming an impending free agent, let alone worrying about Kobe’s anticipated six-to-nine month recovery period. According to USA Today Sports, Howard is expected to re-sign with LA. Two sources close...

Dwight Howard Stopped By Hospital Twice To Check on Kobe

If this was an episode of “24″ (I know ironic), Dwight would be checking in to make sure Kobe was never released from hospital (I miss Jack Bauer). I believe Dwight somewhat, when he says that Kobe has helped him this season, but I also believe, he is embracing the fact, that he can be the “MAN” while Kobe is injured. Frankly, for the Lakers to prosper, even when Kobe comes...

Dwight Howard says He Learned to Be a Leader by Watching Kobe

Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard knows that all of the pressure is on him after Kobe Bryant went down with a ruptured Achilles Friday night. While Dwight did well in his first game post Kobe (26 pts, 17 rbs), he has knows it will take a lot more than just one game to convince [...]

Report: Dwight Howard Plans To Re-Sign With The Lakers

Dwight Howard is a lot of things on and off the court. When healthy, he shows signs of being a great defensive player while still being able to dominate the post on offense. However as of the last year or so, people aren’t praising the three-time defensive player of the year. Instead his indecisive personality and his inability to be forthcoming in his decisions has drawn more...

Mike D’Antoni: I was wrong about Dwight Howard and Pau Gasol

Mike D’Antoni was extraordinarily harsh on Pau Gasol when he took over the job as head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers in November, but he’s finally softening his stance on the big man. Gasol returned to the starting lineup on March 25 after missing six weeks with a foot injury. The team has gone 8-2 in its last 10 games — all of which Gasol has played over 30 minutes. Save...

What Does Kobe Bryant’s Injury Mean For The Future Of Dwight Howard?

credit: sbnation.com Things have gone from bad, to slightly optimistic, to utterly disastrous for the Lakers this season. They hit their ultimate low point today upon finding out that their star player Kobe Bryant would be out for the next 6-9 months due to a complete tear of this Achilles tendon. But while on the surface everybody is asking about the future of Kobe Bryant, the under...

Dwight Howard to remain a Laker?

With Kobe Bryant out with an injury the Los Angeles Lakers need that face of the franchise. Right now until the rest of the season it will be Dwight Howard. Right now Howard is not singed through next season, and he has been non-committal about his future especially with the Lakers. Now according to a report by Sam Amick of the USA Today, Howard will resign with the Lakers. While...

Matchup of the Game: Spurs vs. Lakers

The matchup of the game when the San Antonio Spurs face off against the Los Angeles Lakers will be between Tiago Splitter and Dwight Howard. With the news that Kobe Bryant will be out the remainder of the season with a torn Achilles, the focus on the Lakers offense will likely be Dwight Howard. Howard is averaging 13ppg and 15rpg against the San Antonio Spurs this season and...

Lakers must forge a new identity without Kobe

Although Kobe Bryant's season is over, Dwight Howard thinks the Los Angeles Lakers' fun has just begun. The Lakers are still digesting the news they'll be without their top scorer and team leader for the rest of the season after Bryant tore his Achilles tendon last week. The rest of Los Angeles' roster rallied for a win over powerful San Antonio on Sunday night...

Has There Ever Been a More Eventful Lakers Season?

Has There Ever Been A More Eventful Lakers Season? Think about it. There have certainly been better seasons in Laker-Land. Many eventful ones too – 2008 springs to mind – from Kobe’s trade demand, to Bynum’s emergence and injury, through Gasol’s arrival and a Finals run. 2004 was pretty eventful too. Phil even wrote a book about it. None of these seasons come even CLOSE...
