Eddy Curry, we hardly knew ya. The Dallas Mavericks decided to release the center hopeful Friday, sources told FoxSportsSouthwest.com. The move coincides with the decision to sign veteran power forward Troy Murphy to a one-year deal. This latest cut marks two releases for Curry in a season that's two games old. The San Antonio Spurs had Curry during the preseason before letting him go Oct. 23. The Mavericks claimed the 29-year-old 7-footer three days later. Curry started the Mavs' preseason finale and made the regular season roster. The 10-year veteran played a key role in the season-opening 99-91 victory at the Los Angeles Lakers with seven points and four rebounds in 17 minutes. Curry played sparingly in Wednesday's loss at Utah. He had two points and didn't grab a rebound in eight minutes. The Mavericks have been busy on the personnel front over the last week. Dallas waived Delonte West to make room for Curry despite West having a one-year contract. Mavericks president of operations Donnie Nelson initially lauded the addition of Curry, saying the former lottery pick would "worked extremely hard this offseason and can provide our front line with much needed depth." Curry lost significant weight in his attempt to resume what was once a promising career. A series of off-the-court incidents and injuries over the years have plagued Curry, who played in only 24 games the last four seasons. Murphy is seen as a better stopgap as Dirk Nowitzki recovers from knee surgery. Starting center Chris Kaman is expected back Saturday night for the home opener against Charlotte, making Curry expendable. Nowitzki could be out the rest of the month.
