Pass The Pill:
Eddy Curry hasn’t really been relevant since his days on the Knicks, but that might change.credit: blogspot.com
We recently brought you word that the Mavericks were bringing Eddy Curry on board after he was released from the Spurs. To a lot of fans, the big man has been a bit of a joke for the past few seasons, primarily due to how much weight he has put on over the years. He was on the Miami Heat last year, and collected a championship ring along the way, although he didn’t contribute at all. On a team seriously lacking a big man, Eddy Curry still didn’t get a shot. That’s how bad it was.
Eddy Curry actually looked pretty impressive against the Bobcats in preseason action for the Mavericks, scoring 11 points and grabbing 7 boards in 25 minutes of action. It was only a preseason game, and the Bobcats are still pretty awful, but it was encouraging to see him play well.
Now, it looks like Eddy Curry might get a chance to contribute in the regular season, and it’s coming much sooner than anyone thought. How does being the starting center for the Dallas Mavericks sound?
Via the Dallas News:
Eddy Curry figures to embark to Los Angeles on Monday with his new Mavericks teammates as the team’s starting center.
Considering he’s had a grand total of 25 minutes of playing time going into the season opener Tuesday, it’s not the ideal situation.
But it’s all the Mavericks have at the moment.
With Dirk Nowitzki, Chris Kaman, and Brendan Wright all injured, Dallas really doesn’t have very many options here. Curry is still 7 feet tall, and is a big body, so he at least has some value in that.
Eddy Curry flashed a little promise in the preseason, as seen below:
Well, everyone go grab Eddy Curry for your fantasy team! Actually, don’t do that. But in all seriousness, it would be a nice comeback story to see him have some success this season in a somewhat regular role.
