Last Friday was not a good day for former NBA center Shawn Bradley, as his custom-built bike was stolen from a barn found on the 3-acre property he calls home in the town of Murray, Utah.  Bradley’s ride, with it’s 80-centimeter carbon-fiber aluminum frame, is about 50% bigger than the average adult bike, meaning that there’s no way the thief could have rode away with it, unless they too were freakishly tall.

Said Bradley about his missing bike…

“It’s a stolen bike, not the end of the world,” Bradley said before knowing it had been recovered. “It’s just kind of a weird story. It’s not like I can go down to the bike shop and buy a new bike. It’d be the same if my clothes were stolen.”

Thankfully for the former Mavs center, the one-of-a-kind bike has been recovered, and 34-year-old Joshua Carter of Murray has been arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property and felony theft.  Up until Carter’s arrest the most obvious suspects were Gheorge Muresan, a mischievous giraffe, and three midgets in a trench coat standing on each other’s shoulders .

Now that he has his bike back the 39-year-old Bradley can get back to working on losing the extra weight he’s put on in retirement.  The BYU product ballooned up to 335-pounds following the close of his NBA career, but has been able to shed 30-pounds of that unwanted weight thanks to riding his custom-made bicycle, making the sight of Shawn Bradley riding his comically oversized bicycle the most interesting thing to see in the state of Utah.
