Free agent forward Shane Battier says he will sign with the Miami Heat. Battier announced his decision in a series of posts to his Twitter account Thursday morning. The 33-year-old is entering his 10th NBA season, having previously played for Memphis and Houston. For his career, Battier has averaged 9.6 points and 4.7 rebounds.

MIAMI -- Needing to upgrade their bench, the Miami Heat have landed a significant addition in veteran Shane Battier.
Battier announced on his Twitter account Thursday that he plans to sign with the Heat when free agency opens on Friday afternoon. A number of contending teams had been courting Battier over the last few days, including the Orlando Magic and San Antonio Spurs.
Shane Battier didn't exactly scoop anyone with the news, Yahoo! Sports' Marc Spears had Shane beat on Twitter by ten minutes, but Battier's Twitter announcement that he was signing with the Miami Heat was novel in its approach.
