WASHINGTON, D.C. There were moments, stretches really, when it seemed like the basketball was hovering above the Timberwolves' basket, like this was really some demented game of volleyball in which it was board, board, board, snare. The snare, of course, came by the Wizards, after the Timberwolves had gotten more offensive rebounds than they ever deserved, and after they'd failed to capitalize. Minnesota finished the night with 22, in fact, the most they've had in any game this season. That should be a good thing, right? Offensive rebounds mean more chances. But they also mean more misses, more and more and more at least they did in Friday's 114-101 loss to Washington, the Timberwolves' eighth defeat in nine games. The score says little about the game that unfolded at the Verizon Center. It may represent the Wizards' offense they did shoot 57.8 percent from the field, after all but it doesn't even begin to cover the Timberwolves' struggles. So m...

Ricky Rubio has best game of season with five steals

Ricky Rubio's season has been pretty terrible up until Saturday night. In the T-Wolves' loss to Charlotte, Rubio scored 14 points (4-9 FG, 5-6 FT), with a 3-pointer, a rebound, eight assists and five steals. This was easily his best night of the season. He's shooting just 23.1 percent from the field, making him virtually unstartable. More games like this will change...

Wolves' Rubio apologizes for outburst

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Ricky Rubio said Friday he has apologized to acting coach Terry Porter for an outburst over the team's loss to the Brooklyn Nets. Rubio was upset that he sat out the final minutes of the Timberwolves' 91-83 loss Wednesday night. He was especially agitated after he went to check into the game around the 4-minute mark but was called back to the...

Rubio works through frustration in comeback

Ricky Rubio's left knee has been slow to come around this season. So have the crunch-time minutes and the victories for his Minnesota Timberwolves. That all adds up to one frustrated point guard. Rubio didn't hide his disappointment with sitting the entire fourth quarter in a loss to the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday night. He wants to be out there and helping his injury-plagued...

Ricky Rubio unhappy with being benched

Ricky Rubio was benched for the fourth quarter of the T-Wolves 91-83 loss to the Brooklyn Nets and according to Ray Richardson of the Pioneer Press, he was candidly unhappy about it. Rubio told Richardson, “I want to know what happened.” He continued, “We’re going to talk. ‘TP’ preferred to play the other players who were playing. I don’t know what to say, I don’t...

Ricky Rubio Admits He Has Pain In Surgically Repaired Knee And Loss Of Lift

Heading into the Wolves’ game Wednesday night against Brooklyn at Target Center, Rubio was shooting just 23 percent (12 of 52), including 0 for 10 on three-pointers. “I feel good, but I still have pain in the knee,” Rubio said. “They say it’s normal and that it will take a year or year and a half to get where you don’t think about it. I don’t want to think about next...

What's the point of taking shots at Love?

WASHINGTON, D.C. I'm going to begin this with a few caveats because without caveats this is too broad, too far-reaching, too much the stuff of indiscriminate finger-pointing. So, to clarify, this is not directed at everyone who's ever called himself a Timberwolves fan. It's not lobbed at a state or a city, ignoring the sane and making the unreasonable the only ones...

John Wall gets first start of the season, scores 14 with five assists

John Wall made his first start of the season in a win Friday over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Wall played well, making 6-of-10 shots and 2-of-3 free throws for 14 points. The Wizards point guard added a rebound, five assists and two blocks. Despite starting, Wall played few minutes -- just 21 -- than his last five games. In those games, he averaged 27.2 minutes (14.4 points...
