5TH QUARTER MAGAZINE:
Marcus Camby played for the New York Knicks for a good four seasons. In Camby’s first season with the Knicks, they would go to the 1999 NBA Finals before being beat by the San Antonio Spurs. This past off-season, Camby agreed to a sign-and-trade that would send him from the Portland Trail Blazers to the New York Knicks. He would return back to the Knicks after almost a decade. This return would not have happened had a former Knicks player not convinced Marcus Camby to agree to the sign-and-trade deal.
According to the New York Post, Marcus Camby received a phone call from his former Knicks teammate Allan Houston. Apparently, Camby was on his way to the airport to head to Miami to engage in free agency talks with the Miami Heat. Camby said,
I was on my way to Miami, about to go to the airport to go to Miami when I got the call from Allan. I played with Allan for four years in New York, and he was like, ‘Just come, sit down and have a meeting with us.’ So I took the meeting with him and Coach Mike Woodson and they pretty talked me out of going down to Miami to take that visit.
Camby’s conscience and loyalty to the Knicks encouraged him to don the blue and orange Knicks jersey instead of the black and red Heat jersey. He included,
It would have been hard for me to put on that Miami Heat uniform. Especially with all those battles that we had back in the day. I’m happy things worked out here in New York.
Marcus Camby definitely did the right thing. He is a player who brings great basketball ability and is a class act on and off the court. Had he joined the Miami Heat, his image would have gone from being a good guy to a villain in an instant.

Alright Knicks fans there is good news and bad news in this Isiah Thomas report from Frank Isola of the NY Daily News.
The good news is that Knicks owner James Dolan has reportedly prodded Isiah Thomas to take a position with the organization, but Isiah has refused. Which should be music to Knicks fans ears, even though it’s widely known that Thomas is in Dolan’s ear 24/7.
I don’t know what he and Brian Shaw have done, but they can’t seem to get a head coaching job no matter how many times they interview. Unless you count this D League offer. Former New York Knicks great Patrick Ewing declined an offer to coach the Knicks D-League team, a source close to Ewing [...]

At least that’s the way he feels. A source close to Patrick revealed that he felt somewhat disrespected after the Knicks offered him a job to coach the Erie Bayhawks, a D-League team. Having already established himself as an assistant in the NBA, the source continued to say “Patrick has paid his dues…he was a little insulted…”
A few weeks ago, I wrote about how every player should expect a championship. I even went so far as to say
I don't care if you're Bismack Biyombo. If you're asked about the "tough season coming up," you respond with "I go into every game expecting to win and trying to do everything I can to make that happen. If it turns out to be a tough season...
