Former Los Angeles Lakers Scorer Disses D’Angelo Russell of Being the 1 Reason for the Team’s Playoff Failure
Isaiah J. Downing-USA TODAY Sports

One of the biggest talking points for the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason is the future of D’Angelo Russell, who can become a free agent in July if he doesn’t pick up his player option of roughly $19 million for the 2024-25 season.

Whether he triggers his player option or not, the Los Angeles Lakers are expected to explore trades for the one-time NBA All-Star either way. Recent reports indicate that the team would be willing to sign him to a big one-year deal to make him easier to trade.

D’Angelo Russell is coming off his best campaign wearing a Los Angeles Lakers uniform, averaging 18.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game while shooting a career-high 41.5 percent from three-point land in the regular season.

However, Russell’s form dipped in the playoffs, drawing the ire of the Los Angeles Lakers fanbase because of his well-documented struggles against the Denver Nuggets in the first round.

Nick Young calls out D’Angelo Russell for the Los Angeles Lakers’ struggles

One person who voiced those angry sentiments is former Los Angeles Lakers guard Nick Young, who has quite the history with D’Angelo Russell. The one-time NBA champion said the team was doomed once they “put their faith in the snitch.”

“I was making fun of (head coach Darvin) Ham, but the Lakers just didn’t have the staff, the team. They depended on D-Lo, and that’s just – you’re asking to lose. You’re asking to lose right there, placing your faith in that,” Young said on Vlad TV recently.

“What do you expect? They put their faith in the snitch, and the snitch let you down,” he added.

Nick Young and D’Angelo Russell’s beef happened during the 2015-16 season when the latter secretly recorded the former, who admitted to cheating on his then-girlfriend, Iggy Azalea. Because the clip went viral, Young has been calling Russell a “snitch” ever since.
