As the Phoenix Suns aim to head in a new direction, a former player discusses how happy he is to be in a different situation. New Houston Rockets wing Kevin Durant spoke for the first time at the team’s media day about how he feels to return to his old college stomping grounds in Texas. The 37-year-old was over the moon talking about being with the Rockets, as putting on the jersey just felt “right.”
“It feels amazing to be back here. I’ve always found my way to Houston throughout the years, from friends, relationships I’ve built since coming to Texas. Always felt this was a place I could settle in and live.
“For this opportunity to come around, it felt natural, felt right. I’ve always had support here from me playing at Texas. I always felt the love when I came back to Houston. To put on a Rockets jersey, I know it’s going to go to the next level. I’m looking forward to it.”
The 15-time All-Star spent two and a half years with the Suns. During that time, drama filled every waking moment in the Valley, most of the time not his fault. However, Durant and the team’s lack of success had NBA analysts and fans alike clowning Phoenix, with pundits like Kendrick Perkins calling the franchise the biggest embarrassment in the NBA.
It’s no surprise that Durant feels more comfortable in a Rockets uniform, as the organization has a better identity than the Suns right now. Owner Mat Ishbia is trying to dig his team out of the hole that has surrounded Phoenix for the past three years. While Ishbia does that, Durant will be enjoying the highlife in his new home in Houston.
